UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will stake her title against returning Cat Zingano in the UFC 184 pay-per-view event to be held on February 28 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, notes Yahoo! Sports.
Zingano is coming from two knee injuries in 2013 that cost her a TV gig and a shot at the world title. She also had to bear a tragic event in her life also in the latter part of that year after Mauricio Zingano, her husband, coach, mentor, best friend and soulmate, committed suicide in Denver.
With what she’s been through in life, many mixed martial arts analysts opine that no other woman competitor in the UFC is tougher than Cat Zingano. She has been physically tough before and is now even tougher with what she has been through.
The battle at the octagon between Rousey and Zingano would be an interesting match because the two are of contrasting styles and personalities.
Different public perspectives
Cat Zingano shuns public attention. She is not comfortable talking about herself and her life in public.
But she wants to share the experience of what she has gone through over the past couple of years and months as it may be able to impact people in a positive way.
However, she said that if the interview becomes too much for her to handle, then she will be pulling the plug on it.
Rousey on the other hand loves the limelight. She is at ease in front of the camera. She has no inhibitions whether acting in a movie, posing in a sexy bikini outfit, or simply talking to sports journalists about her fight career.
She basks in her glory as the unbeaten world champion and she is very confident too.
Zingano is surely the underdog in their match and she would have two things on her mind playing along – either a personal loss or a potential win. Rousey on the other hand does not entertain the thought of losing and she is confident that she will handily defeat Zingano.
Happy to be back
Cat Zingano is thankful for the support extended to her by the MMA community which enabled her to rise up from the difficult struggles that she had to go through.
She says that after feeling the kind of pain and undergoing the type of suffering that she had to go through, it has brought her a different understanding of what life is all about and what’s important to her or who’s important to her life.
At the moment, no one could be more important to Cat Zingano than her 8-year-old son Brayden and she is always striving to be strong to be able to stand for him all the time.
Zingano is also a picture of perseverance, dedication and commitment to do whatever is best for Brayden. She said that what is propelling her to fighting in the UFC is passion and also her desire to give only the best for his son.
She says that UFC women fighters do not make tons of money from the sport so they are mostly in it for the passion. But in her case she admitted that the sport is her only source of income as of this time after she lost her husband the training program that they both engaged in.
She adds that the good thing about playing in the UFC is that she can provide for herself and her son while also living her passion. Cat says that when she’s in training, she considers everything as a job. But when she gets into the octagon, she says it’s already a personal achievement because the work has been done already.
