In a recent interview with Roku CEO Anthony Wood by Jared Newman of Fast Company, the executive said that the American company based in Saratoga, Califonia is confident that its strategies, which are dubbed by others as survival plan, against Apple, Google and Amazon, will be sufficient to hold off the impending stiff competition.
Part of the company’s strategies is the upcoming fall launching of the Roku 4, which is the latest iteration to its popular line of TV set-top boxes for watching media streaming services like Netflix and Hulu on televisions.
But while Roku has the largest channel selection, arguably the simplest interface, and the most devoted users, it cannot deny that the competition is really making gains in all those areas.
Wood is optimistic that his company has come up with good business strategies to fend off potential threats along the way from competition. He also explicitly said that Roku is not an underdog in the game because it is in good solid footing.
The Roku CEO is also confident that his company’s experience over the years would be enough to hold off whatever form of threats from competition will come along the way, which it really did since launching its first streaming video player in 2008.
The competition is obviously being heightened by the fact that the upcoming players are the big names in the technology business including Apple and Google but the bottomline still is how well their products perform and received by the consumers, which is why Roku is confident about its time-tested and proven streaming products.
Exciting enhancements
As it took the company quite a while to come up with the latest update to the Roku 3, reports are rife that Roku 4 is loaded with exciting enhancement and features which is not only meant to provide users with a new level of media streaming experience but also to compensate or offset for the agonizing wait that fans and users had to endure for the coming of the new device.
Of course, topping off those exciting features is the capability of the Roku 4 to support 4K video streaming, which is a first for a media streaming device, and is likely to become the product’s major selling point.
It will also boast of faster load times between navigational screens and quicker boot-up times. In addition, it will also feature a front-panel reset button, an enhanced channel store, a stabilized firmware and support for 802.11 AC Wi-Fi.
Superb features
The fourth iteration of the media streaming device will have superb features to make it really competitive in the market.
Roku 4 will sport a 2GB of RAM, which is a big jump to the 512 MB that is featured in Roku 3. With a bigger RAM capacity, Roku 4 shall be able to compete directly with other powerful products in the market today such as the Amazon Fire TV Stick and the Amazon Fire TV as it is expected to feature faster load times between navigation screens.
In addition, the Roku 4 shall reportedly come with wireless technology, which was not too prevalent when the Roku 3 was released back in 2013. It is also expected that the upcoming media streaming device shall come with an internal antenna to improve its signal strength.
