“Star Wars” fans have been getting quite a lot of information about the upcoming “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, and even though many were skeptical about the film at first, worried that it’s taking the franchise in the wrong direction, recent reports seem to have put most people’s minds at ease.
Sure, it’s not a traditional “Star Wars” film, and it might actually deviate from the core plot quite a bit. But at the same time, “Rogue One” has a strong potential to tell an interesting story, one that has a perfect place in the franchise’s universe, and to greatly expand the current set of characters and subplots.
Just recently, we saw a new preview for the film teasing some of the new characters that are coming up. It looks like we’re going to see the story expanded in multiple different directions, and the producers are definitely trying to create something which will actually excite their fans, rather than confirming the initial skepticism.
One of the main characters of the new film will be a female X-Wing, one who’s apparently seen a lot of combat. We don’t know much about her character yet, but some are speculating that she might have already been shown in a comic book related to the “Star Wars” series.
As some have pointed out, it’s good to see the franchise exploring the topic of female X-Wing pilots some more, as there has been a noticeable lack of them in the films overall. It’s been the subject of some speculation why things were like that, but in any case, it’s good to see that the franchise is moving in the kind of direction that fans and critics want to see.
We’ve also seen some interesting new creatures which appear to be new additions to the “Star Wars” lore, or at least they haven’t been brought to the forefront before. It’s been hinted that we’re going to see them in some peculiar situations, and they might actually hide some complex personalities underneath.
That would certainly make sense as a new development for the franchise, as it’s always been a staple of “Star Wars” to present various interesting new alien species, and to try drawing a parallel to humanity in certain areas.
“Rogue One” could be the perfect opportunity to explore the series in this direction some more, so we expect to see even more than the aliens which were shown in the current previews. It would make sense for the producers to be hiding the best for last.
Some of the creatures we’ve seen in the last previews have actually puzzled fans somewhat, as nobody seems quite sure what they’re about. As we said earlier though, it’s very possible that this is intentional on the producers’ part, as they want to get some discussion going among their fans before revealing more information. It would fit perfectly in the style of the franchise so far, too.
It was inevitable that “Star Wars” would branch out in new directions like “Rogue One”, and we’ve actually already seen plenty of spin-offs from the franchise before, including even animated shows. Some of those spin-offs have actually turned out quite well in the end, so it’s certainly possible that we’re going to see something solid with “Rogue One” as well. After that, who knows – maybe the producers will strike a goldmine that they will want to explore in more detail.
