Even though Rockstar have been focusing more or less exclusively on developing additional content for “GTA 5” and fixing outstanding issues with the game, there have been rumors that the company is already thinking about what they want to do with the next installment in the series, and they reportedly have lots of different ideas for it. In addition, reports indicated that the game’s development is still in very early stages, as the studio hasn’t even decided on a setting.
And, after a recent statement by Rockstar themselves, it seems that these rumors were pretty much right on spot. Leslie Benzies, president of Rockstar Games, recently stated that the company has numerous different ideas for their sequel that they want to give a try to, and they’re trying to figure out what exactly they want to take from all of those ideas in the first place.
According to him, the initial idea is the main element that defines the development of a “GTA” game, with everything else coming after that. After the studio has decided on a location, they will then figure out how the game’s map will be structured, and how the missions will work as well. The storyline apparently flows as a result of the location’s development, a production style that goes against how most other studios work. But judging by the results that we’re seeing in “GTA 5” and the franchise before that, this method obviously works for the studio.
Benzies went on to say that the studio’s multitude of ideas is actually their biggest issue right now. They’re finding it hard to split their work between the many different projects they have – “GTA 5” alone is giving them plenty of work, as they are working on the game on several fronts, plus they are also planning additional DLC for it which is apparently eating into the development time of the developers.
At this point, “GTA 6” seems a long way off, whenever the game hits the market. Given how long the previous titles in the series have taken to develop as well, it will probably be at least several years before we see another “GTA” game. But looking at everything that’s being rumored about the title right now, and the apparently huge amounts of effort that Rockstar are putting into it, one thing is clear – when Rockstar are ready to show it to the world, “GTA 6” will most likely break new grounds in gaming, and be at least as popular as “GTA 5”, if not even more. A lot can happen in gaming over the next few years, and if Rockstar utilize new technologies smartly, they could end up achieving a lot with this franchise.
