As Hollywood veteran actor Robert Duvall sees it, Robert Downey Jr. should not give up his Tony Stark role to anybody else when Marvel Studios decides to give the production of “Iron Man 4” a go in the future.
Duvall made the advice to Downey during a recent interview as the two actors were actually co-stars in the movie “Judge.”
But if it is up to Robert Downey Jr., he would sure like to hold on to the Tony Stark and Iron Man roles as those made him the highest paid actor in Hollywood for two years running. However, that decision is not on his hands. He even laughed at the notions that he has the authority to make a decision on it like he was a casting director for Marvel which he is not, reports Latino Post.
No matter how high Robert Downey’s asking price is for “Iron Man 4,” Marvel Studios will not have difficulty meeting it considering that his last stand-alone film “Iron Man 3” is the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time with its worldwide box office haul of $1.22 billion. So even if the actor asks for a significant raise on his $50 million salary which he got for “Iron Man 3” and “Avengers,” Marvel is sure to give in.
The only concern of the studio at this point is the oversaturation of “Iron Man” since Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark practically has a movie every year from 2014 up to possibly 2019.
By then, Marvel will be past the phase 3 of its cinematic universe and will be ready to do an “Iron Man 4,” notes Christian Today.
Quenching fan thirst for “Iron Man 4”
Marvel understands how fans are already anticipating the fourth installment of the “Iron Man” franchise. And in order to quench fan thirst for “Iron Man 4,” Marvel has decided to relaunch the “Iron Man” comic where the superhero will build a new kind of world.
Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez will oversee the relaunching of the “Iron Man” comic which accordingly will still feature Tony Stark in the iron suit. However, there will be some twist as he will have a new supporting cast, a new armor, and new villains to contend with in the comic.
Although it seems that negotiations between Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. are in a stalemate for “Iron Man 4,” the actor has commitments with the studio for the next four years which means that he will continue to reprise his role as Tony Stark and don the Iron Man suit in several other upcoming Marvel movies.
What is confirmed at this point among these movies are “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1,” and “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” which have playdates of 2016, 2018, and 2019 respectively.
Hectic schedule
That leaves 2017 as the year where Robert Downey Jr. will not have a movie where he shall play Tony Stark and Iron Man.
However, it has been reported that the Spider-Man reboot solo movie will be shown in 2017 and Marvel may capitalize on the popularity of RDJ as Tony Stark and Iron Man and insert him into the movie just to give the refreshed web-slinging superhero a warm welcome to the Marvel cinematic universe and also into the Avengers.
Marvel and RDJ fans would love to see him come back for Iron Man 4! I guess RDJ should be more concerned about his fans than money, cause he’s the most successful actor in the world! Hope he comes back and also want to see him in the Spider man reboot along with Captain America 3 and Infinity War!
