No wonder Rihanna is a great singer. She actually drew inspiration and learned from singing greats Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and reggae legend Bob Marley while she was growing up and wanting to be a singer.
In particular, the “Diamond” singer admitted that she has been mimicking the voice and singing style of Mariah Carey to be able to hone her singing craft.
She has also been keeping tabs of the songs and the performance of Canadian songstress Celine Dion and the king of reggae no less Bob Marley, details Tonight.
Rih-Rih admitted that she has always been drawn to music and singing even when she was still a child. At the age of eight years old, it already dawned upon her young mind that she wanted to sing and be a singer in the future.
A prolific music artist
As it turned out, the now 26-year-old singer has become one of the most prolific pop singers today. She has already made seven albums despite being barely 10 years in the music industry. Her eight studio album is about to be unveiled very soon.
Her latest track “FourFiveSecond” is actually part of her latest album and is a collaboration with American rapper Kanye West and Beattles legend Sir Paul McCartney.
She recalls that when she was young, she really loved watching the music videos of Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Bob Marley. She spends so much time on TV trying to catch the great singers’ music videos because they were always played on the small screen in the Caribbean.
Rihanna grew up in Barbados, which is part of the Caribbean group of islands, east of Central America.
She also remembers mimicking everything she heard from Mariah Carey. Even the “Hero” singer’s actions on stage and on her music videos, Rih-Rih would take the extra effort to copy it and perform like her idol.
Determined to make it big
The “Stay” singer, who is currently romantically linked to Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, also recalled that she was really determined to make her own music even at a young age.
Rihanna explained that she wanted to have her own tone back then. It was when she heard her own voice that she eventually realized how unique her voice is. And that’s when she got even more serious with her music craft.
She also wanted to come up with music that would become very popular all over the world and also be famous in places where she has never seen or never been into.
As she matured and eventually developed her own singing repertoire, she evolved into her own and stopped mimicking her music idols. She eventually found her own style that is now distinctively all her own. Apart from having that signature voice that is truly Rihanna, her global popularity has increased by leaps and bounds that anybody these days who knows music, knows the “Diamond” singer.
