Fans of “Rick and Morty” were a bit worried after the end of season 2, where a short scene implied that it could be a long time before the next season of the show is ready. Some saw it as a joke on the second season’s production schedule, others took it more seriously, while others weren’t sure what to think given the nature of the show and the way its producers constantly mess with their viewers. But recent reports have finally put the minds of fans at ease, revealing that season 3 will be ready before the end of this year.
The news comes straight from Dan Harmon, one of the creators of the series, who seemed confident that 2016 will be a happy year for his fans. Of course, we’re still a long time away from the end of the year so that’s still not very consoling to those who were hopeful to see the new episodes sooner, but it’s still a good sign that things are running smoothly behind the scenes.
As a bonus, the new season will also be slightly longer than those before it – almost 50% longer, in fact, as it will feature 4 extra episodes on top of the standard 10 that we used to get until now. All in all, it seems like a pretty good deal for fans who feel like they can’t wait until the end of the year, as the wait will at least be worth it.
Now all that’s left for fans to discuss is what is going to happen once season 3 arrives, and what kinds of events will take place related to our favorite characters. Rick’s fate is obviously the most bothersome question for many, and nobody knows what’s going to happen to the crazy scientist. While many are convinced that he will be freed from his prison very early in the new season, others seem to think that the writers of the show will put him through a bit of a challenging ordeal and will keep him locked up for longer.
There is even a theory that Rick might remain locked up for the majority of season 3, with the whole season building up to his release orchestrated by other characters. However, many fans of the show seem to dislike this idea as it would mean taking Rick out of the equation for the majority of the season. Sure, we could still see him in prison from time to time, but the way he interacts with Morty and everyone else around him is what makes his character so great in the first place.
We’ve seen a lot of growth in the characters of Beth and Jerry in particular as a result of Rick’s presence in their lives, and it would probably be a bit boring to see them reverting back to their original personalities in his absence. Hopefully they have retained a thing or two from what Rick taught them and will put that to good knowledge in his rescue.
It’s not very clear how the family itself will move on after the events of season 2’s finale however, as their own reality changed quite a lot as a result of what happened. It was also implied that they might enjoy their new situation to some extent, although this is obviously not something the writers can maintain for too long, and it’s most likely just a front for something else.
