When “Rick and Morty” first appeared, some people didn’t pay a lot of attention to it, disregarding it as just another silly comedy show based on a parody of popular characters. It quickly became obvious that this was far from the case though, as the writers of this production have some unusual ideas that they have brought to the screen very successfully – and now “Rick and Morty” is already in its second season, enjoying a lot of attention from both fans and critics alike.
People have been quite impressed with how the show handles various popular topics and themes that have been considered clichéd for a long time in television. Some of the ideas introduced in this season have been quite controversial with the community, but that’s definitely good in the end – it means that the producers aren’t afraid to take risks and polarize their fans.
Because after all, this kind of polarization is exactly what drives the show forward and determines what works and what doesn’t. People have generally been very supportive of the new changes introduced in the show for this season, and it’s particularly good to see that the writers are paying more attention to side characters, according to critics.
Each episode in season 2 so far has been pushing the limits farther and farther – it’s obvious that this show is going to go quite far when it comes to its wacky storylines, but it’s interesting how there is always something sinister and serious underneath all of this random humor. Each episode has a premise that seems lighthearted and fun, but in the end it gets its viewers thinking on all kinds of topics that haven’t been so popular on television lately.
In some cases, fans were left quite confused after an episode’s end, particularly the one with the parasites that altered people’s memories. Discussions about that episode are still ongoing as the community is not quite sure what to make of everything that happened in that episode, but in any case, it was considered to be one of the most entertaining episodes of a TV show that we’ve seen on TV in a long time.
Meanwhile, some of the more minor characters of the show are getting more fleshed out, and even some of those who only appear once in every few episodes are starting to form some strong personalities. At the same time, characters like Beth and Jerry who were somewhat left in the shadow in the first season are now much deeper and interestingly developed than before, and we’re starting to see some very fine nuances to their behavior which were not that apparent previously.
Some fans have been speculating that season 2 might have a very dark plot twist somewhere along the way, leaving everyone hanging after the last episode. We wouldn’t put it past the writers of the show to be planning something like this, but we have no idea what it could be or which episode it could be introduced in.
There has been a lot of speculation that Rick might try to commit suicide at some point, as there have been lots of hints already that the character is actively considering that. Multiple episodes have looked at this side of his personality, but it has never been addressed in a more direct way yet. It would be interesting to see how the writers might handle that, even though some fans are claiming that it would be much darker than the show’s overall theme.
