Season 2 of the American adult animated TV series “Rick and Morty” is nearing its penultimate episode this month and season finale next month. The show continues to draw in the viewers with its own brand of humor that is apparently setting a new record in comedy on TV.
During its 11-episode Season 1 last year, “Rick and Morty” averaged 5.4 jokes per minute, with the highest posted by episode 8 titled “Rixty Minutes” with a remarkable 6.60 jokes per minute, and the least being the Season 1 premiere and pilot episode aptly-titled “Pilot,” with jokes per minute count of 4.74, details the Den of Geek.
It appears that Season 2 of “Rick and Morty” has build on the massive and impressive gains of Season 2 in terms of jokes per minute count that as of the first six episodes of Season 2, the TV series is now averaging 6.14 jokes per minute.
The episode in the current season that posted the most number of jokes per minute count was episode 4 titled “Total Rickall” posting an impressive 6.98 count, with the least being episode 3 titled “Auto Erotic Assimilation” with 5.33 jokes per minute record.
Obviously, apart from continuously bringing in the viewers and the laughs, “Rick and Morty” is apparently packing in the jokes by setting a new record in terms of jokes per minute, which enabled the show to be considered by experts as a TV series which raised the level of comedy in the small screen.
Season 3 is confirmed
While Season 2 of “Rick and Morty” has yet to complete airing its 10-episode run on the Adult Swim, the network has already announced last month that they are confirming the TV series for Season 3, reports Comingsoon.net.
Adult Swim has already ordered more intergalactic adventures of “Rick and Morty” for Season 3, which continues to bring in the viewers and impressive ratings.
In fact, when “Rick and Morty” Season 2 premiered on July 26, the TV series ranked No.1 in its time period among key adults and men and garnered 29.7 million streams that month.
Co-executive producer Dan Harmon says that he felt honored to see “Rick and Morty” join the exclusive club of shows with over 19 episodes. He said that it is about time for them to demand that the network allow them to draw the characters going to Hawaii.
Justin Roiland, the other co-creator and co-executive producer of “Rick and Morty,” who also lends the voice to both Rick and Morty, says that he is kind of blown away with the instant success of the TV series and he really looks forward to continuing the adventures of the two in the animated TV show.
Debut platform
The return to television of American comedian, writer, producer, actor, media critic, and television host Stephen Colbert last month began at an episode of Season 2 of “Rick and Morty.”
Apparently, Colbert’s guest appearance on “Rick and Morty” came before his “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” premiered on the air on Adult Swim.
Colbert appeared first on the sixth episode of “Rick and Morty” that aired on September 6 before his show official debuted on Adult Swim on September 8.
The TV show’s character on “Rick and Morty” was an intellectual match for Rick, making him unique in the universe of the TV series. Typical of Rick, he hates everyone including Colbert’s alien for being smart. Rick hates everyone else for their stupidity and it is only Colbert whom will he hated because the guy is smart like him.
According to co-showrunner Justin Roiland, the episode of “Rick and Morty” where Stephen Colbert appeared is his favorite for Season 2. He disclosed that Stephen matched up well with Rick and that the TV host really kicked ass and gave 100% to the show.
Roiland added that Colbert was really fun to work with and could not have been a better sport. He also lent a great voice for the character and is as smart as Rick.
