Up until now, it was known that the “Resident Evil” remake would be coming sometime in early 2015, although no exact release date was known so far. Now, Capcom have revealed that the game is coming on January 20, and it will cost $20 on all platforms when it’s released. It will come out simultaneously on the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
From what’s known about the remake of the original so far, it will feature higher resolution textures, better models, lighting and an overall improved atmosphere. A gallery of comparison images was released earlier, showing exactly what fans can expect from the new release.
Fans – and critics – have been wondering how the release of the remake will affect the development of the new “Resident Evil 7”. The series has changed quite significantly in its latest installment, and Capcom have taken a few turns with the game’s development that were meant to make it more appealing to a broader audience. At the same time, some fans of the original were expressing disappointment, claiming that the game is losing its purpose and authentic charm.
However, if sales for the remastered “Resident Evil” are good, this could very well make Capcom reconsider how they’re approaching their development. If people are buying a remastered version of the very first game in large numbers, this could mean that even today, there is a large crowd for a game with such gameplay, which in turn could have a serious impact on the development of “Resident Evil 7”.
Of course, that’s only possible under the assumption that Capcom haven’t decided the major direction for the development of “Resident Evil 7” yet. If the company already has a plan in place, and have started executing it, this could mean that the sales of the “Resident Evil” remake would be largely irrelevant in the future of the franchise, at least in the immediate term.
Still, fans have been hopeful that the remake will see good sales and will make Capcom realize that there is strong potential for a classic horror game with more hardcore gameplay, focused on exploration and environment interaction. Some are saying that with a few small tweaks, the gameplay of the original “Resident Evil” still lives up to today’s standards. The only problem with the original is in its graphics, and as long as that’s addressed properly (as the remake is aiming to do), then there is a good chance that many people would be interested in trying out the game. This could very well include people who haven’t been in touch with the series at all, bringing a lot of new potential buyers for “Resident Evil 7”.

I don’t mind Resident Evil 7 being like Resident Evil 4- Resident Evil 6 action oriented, but what they need to bring back in the game is some of the survival horror roots and make the game some scary like re0-4. Re4 was a great game and it did still had the survival horror elements like re1-3, but it was still the downfall to the series though.
no matter how many new games release nothing is like Resident Evil 4
