Japanese game developer Capcom has already confirmed that “Resident Evil 7,” the latest installment to its popular dramatic horror action-adventure third-person shooter video game franchise, shall officially be released on the PC, the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation VR, and the Xbox One on January 24, 2017.
Prior to the announcement of the official release date for the game during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016, Capcom said that “Resident Evil 7” shall return to its roots since the last few games in the series have become more like the traditional third-person shooter games in the market.
The focus has become more on the shooting and less on the gore and the zombies which are actually the hallmarks of the “Resident Evil” franchise, both in the video games and in the movies.
It seems like the gamers of “Resident Evil” need not fret anymore as “Resident Evil 7” shall have its full dose of zombies the way fans and gamers would have wanted it.
In fact, the developers at Capcom also teased recently that “Resident Evil 7” shall have zombie-like monsters and other humanoid enemies. But it does not mean that the good old-fashioned T-virus zombies will not be around because they will still be in the upcoming game, reports Games Radar.
Having zombie-like monsters in the game is nothing new to the “Resident Evil” video game franchise. It has featured the same in the past including the Los Ganados. The developers said that gamers should expect some kind of mutilated human forms to come lurching after them in the game, which is where the excitement and enthusiasm in the game come from.
A VR-ready world
It is expected that “Resident Evil 7” would be scarier in the PlayStation VR than in any other gaming platform.
Capcom has recently shown some of the photo-scanning technology it used to build the game’s VR-ready world during the CEDEC conference in Yokohama, Japan late last month and it was indeed scary.
There were familiarly dismembered faces and some new mutilated zombie forms, which the faint of heart would surely find really life-like and very scary in the PlayStation VR.
“Resident Evil 7” is the first game in the franchise that will come out with VR support and if Capcom finds it successful and warmly received by gamers, there is a good chance that a VR version of the previous games in the series will also be developed sooner than later.
Playable at TGS 2016
Meanwhile, indicative of its confidence on how the gamers would appreciate “Resident Evil 7” in a VR platform, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia has included the VR version of the game as among those which shall be playable at its booth at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2016.
“Resident Evil 7” shall be among the top games in the Sony booths during the event and it shall be featured along with other games like “Nioh,” Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare,” “Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue,” and more, reports Mobile & Apps.
There will also be games playable in PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Vita in the Sony booths during the TGS 2016.
There were reports last month saying that the game got an M rating as posted on the ESRB website. M stands for mature, which may have something to do with the reported pretty intense-sounding graphic violence in “Resident Evil 7.”
The same reports are also saying that the game shall contain a heavy amount of combat where players will use weapons like pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives, and chainsaws against mutated creatures.
It is actually a big change in the type of player weaponry compared to the ax that was included in the “Resident Evil 7: The Beginning Hour” demo.
The violence of the game will be pretty gory as it shall include dismemberment by chainsaw and shovel. There is also a scene showing a shovel getting impaled through a character’s face.
