Japanese game developer Capcom has released a demo gameplay for the dramatic horror action-adventure third-person shooter video game “Resident Evil 7” during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 held at Los Angeles, California last month.
Capcom also announced during the E3 2016 that “Resident Evil 7” shall officially be released to the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, and the PC on January 24 next year. In addition, the game shall also have virtual reality (VR) support when it comes out to the PC and gaming consoles next year.
A few days later after the E3 2016, Capcom released image teases about the game which perplexed its anticipating gamers almost to no end.
What caught the attention of the gamers is the mystery surrounding the dummy finger in the image seemingly pointing to the phrase ‘The path, for now, is closed, but patience …’
The tease is actually reminiscent of the Konami game “P.T.” where the gamers were able to find a hidden trailer after they combed its initial demo for secrets. The trailer showed the doomed Silent Hills, reports the PC Gamer.
Unfortunately, there was nothing that gamers have found on the demo trailer for “Resident Evil 7” that was released by Capcom during the E3 2016 despite various loose ends and mysterious objects hinting that there is more to be revealed.
Lightening up the fire again
After a few days, the Reddit thread discussing the possibility of a hidden trailer on the “Resident Evil 7” demo has slowed down as gamers began to accept that they might just be wasting their time trying to find something that is not even there in the first place.
But Capcom decided to light up the fire again a few days ago by sending out an e-mail to the fans of “Resident Evil 7.”
The e-mail boasts that two million people have downloaded the demo of the game, even as an accompanying image teases suggested a use for the mysterious dummy finger that has been keeping fans vexed about its purpose for weeks now.
According to some critics, the presence of the finger hints of an upcoming update that shall add more stuff to the demo trailer.
There is also the fact that the demo is available only for the PlayStation 4 so the gamers on the Xbox One and the PC are momentarily left out.
Some critics are saying that the demo of “Resident Evil 7” was not meant to be puzzled over the same way “P.T.” was despite it being a stand-alone experience. They also added that the dummy finger has more of a role to play and not a direction mechanism or something, notes Polygon.
Reinventing ‘Resident Evil 7’
Series producer Masachika Kawata explained during the E3 2016 that they have worked on reinventing “Resident Evil 7” and allow it to go back to its horror roots, which according to some critics, have sorely been missing over the last two or three installments of the game.
Capcom has helped pioneer the survival horror concept in video games with the “Resident Evil” franchise but for some reasons, it was also the one who deviated from the genre since a couple of years ago.
The demo and trailer of “Resident Evil 7” shown during the E3 2016 featured a more terse, psychological kind of horror game which many other game developers, including Konami, are looking to tap into.
Kawata said that the game is still a work in progress but judging from what fans and gamers have seen at the E3 2016, it looks like the Capcom development team is on course to meeting its objectives for “Resident Evil 7.”
While the game will come out with VR support on the PlayStation 4, it is actually an optional feature so those who will opt not to use the technology can play the game normally on the Sony gaming console.
Kawata said that “Resident Evil 7” will offer a different kind of experience, regardless whether gamers shall play it with or without the PlayStation VR support.
It shall offer a more detailed and visceral experience of the game environment although Kawata admitted that comfort optimizations might be an extra challenge.
