Reign Season 4 Release Date Push-Back Meant to Avoid ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7, New Rumors Say

Despite its plummeting ratings during its third season, the American historical drama TV series “Reign” was still renewed for Season 4 by The CW.

Word later came out that the network just wanted to give the show a fitting closure so that “Reign” could tie up all loose ends and give its fans a satisfying conclusion.

There were also reports saying that Season 4 of “Reign” is going to be a test-case for the show. If it does well in the ratings, there is a strong possibility that The CW would renew it for another season. If it continues to experience the decline in its ratings, then Season 4 is going to be the last for the show.

However, when The CW pushed back the release date of “Reign” from its regular fall premiere to early next year, the notions that the TV series’ fourth season is going to be its last have strengthened all the more.

But according to supposed insiders of the show, the reason why “Reign” Season 4 release date was pushed back is because the TV series does not want to air at the same time that “Game of Thrones” is airing on HBO, notes the Ecumenical News.

It could be recalled that most of the second half of “Reign” Season 3 aired on The CW about the same time when “Game of Thrones” Season 6 was airing on HBO. While the shows do not have the same timeslot at that time, period dramas always try to avoid the hit fantasy drama because of its dominant status in the TV realm.

Back in Scotland

After her ordeal and challenges during Season 3, Queen Mary of Scots, played by Adelaide Kane, shall be back in Scotland.

When The CW renewed the show for a fourth season earlier this year, it was The CW President Mark Pedowitz who gave the perfect reason.

He said that the fans need to find out if Queen Mary goes back to Scotland and what she intends to do there, reports the Christian Today.

It could be recalled that violence and war plagued Scotland and ultimately divided it. It is possible that Queen Mary will turn things around once her country sees her back in her throne.

Critics are also saying that the return of Queen Mary to Scotland might just be the boost the show needs in order to stay on the air. It is being hoped that the story of Queen Mary shall inspire former viewers of “Reign” to return when the fourth season of the show premieres on The CW early next year.

Making her country great again

The exact airing date of Season 4 of “Reign” has yet to be announced by The CW network but the rumors have been fairly consistent in saying that Queen Mary shall do everything in her power to make her country great again.

She also needed someone to help her out and with the death of her husband King Francis, played by Tony Regbo in Season 3, she needed a new partner to map out the plans and do the dirty work for her.

Apparently, Queen Mary shall have two suitors in the upcoming fourth season of “Reign” and she will end up marrying both of them. But lest it is mistaken for polygamy, she would marry both men but one after the other and not simultaneously.

Reign Season 4

Queen Mary will have two new suitors in Lord Darnley, Henry Stuart, to be played by Will Kemp and James Hepburn, the Earl of Bothwell, to be played by Adam Croasdell. There are even reports saying that the fourth season would highlight the love triangle involving Mary, Lord Darnleand James.

Lord Darnley has a legitimate claim to the English throne by blood so he will wed Queen Mary in order to bring down Queen Elizabeth of England, played by Rachel Skarsten, and in the process conquer two nations at the same time. Based on history, Lord Darnley is actually the second husband of Queen Mary but died after only one year of their marriage.
