After the long wait for the fourth season of the British historical drama TV series “Reign” on The CW, it has already been announced that the show would premiere on the network on February 10, 2017.
Since the airing of the Season 3 finale of “Reign” in June, there have been speculations that the upcoming fourth season of the TV series could be its last because of the declining ratings of the show.
The show, which normally premieres in the fall, takes a winter break, and then wraps up in the spring, will deviate from its usual schedule.
Season 4 of “Reign” has been pushed back by The CW to a mid-season premiere and its number of episodes was likewise reduced, which spawned speculations that it could indeed be the last for the TV series.
In fact, the rumors are rife in saying that Season 4 could be a test case for “Reign.” If it does well in the ratings, it can possibly be renewed for a couple more seasons. But if it fails to spike up the ratings, then the historical drama TV series is going to be history as well.
Interesting casting rumor
Of late, there are rumors saying that actress Adelaide Kane will be exiting the show after Season 4.
As she plays the all-important role of being Queen Mary Stuart in the TV series, there are reports saying that producers CBS Television Studios is now looking to cast the role to somebody else come the show’s fifth season.
There are two reasons why such rumors appear inaccurate. It would be foolish for the producers to recast the character Queen Mary Stuart of Scots since there seems to be nobody who can perfectly fit into the role the way that Adelaide Kane does, notes Game & Guide.
And second, Season 4 is to be the test case whether “Reign” should continue on for a fifth season and beyond. So the rumors about the show being renewed for a fifth season appear not to be true at all.
The story of Queen Elizabeth
Season 4 of “Reign” shall also focus on the story of Queen Elizabeth I, played by Rachel Skarsten, who is the ruler of England.
The upcoming season will pick up from the death of Queen Mary’s husband, Francis of France, played by Tony Regbo. It is for such reason that the feud between the two queen cousins will become more intense in Season 4.
Francis left his young wife whom he had been with for only a year. Prior to the death of her husband, Mary also experienced the loss of her dear friends in the court namely, Kenna, Aylee, and Greer. She also lost Lady Lola to a beheading, reports News Everyday.
The reports about Canadian actor Torrance Coombs deciding to leave “Reign” on The CW came out as early as before the Season 3 finale of the show was aired.
Coombs played the role of Sebastian or Bash in the TV series. He is the illegitimate brother of King Francis of France who is also Queen Mary’s former husband.
Queen Mary, played by Adelaide Kane, is a friend of Bash in “Reign” and she could count on Bash for whatever things she wants to be done.
So when Coombs decided not to come back for the upcoming fourth season of “Reign,” the actress expressed disappointment.
However, there are reports saying that the character of Bash has not been given a graceful exit in the show so it is likely that the TV series would give him one come its fourth season.
But actor Torrance Coombs shall no longer appear and complete the so-called graceful exit of Bash from “Reign” will be done in the form of narrative.
There are reports saying that Bash will be killed off in “Reign” Season 4 since Queen Mary shall be returning already to Scotland following the death of King Francis. Since Bash no longer has a role in Scotland, rumors are rife that it would be better off killing the character than allow him to freely roam around with nothing better to do in the TV series.
