While “Reign” has had a mostly successful run so far, there have been various comments comparing the show to “Game of Thrones”; and while it’s true that there are some similarities between the two on the surface, fans of “Reign” know that the show can stand out on its own well enough. Still, the producers have apparently decided to take a more cautious approach with the release of season 4, and have pushed it back by a few months, possibly to avoid clashing with the seventh season of “Game of Thrones”.
We are currently not sure when exactly the show is scheduled to return to the screen, but it’s definitely not in the fall schedule of its network, The CW. Other popular shows have already been confirmed for this period, but hopefully this is just a temporary pause in the production of “Reign” and won’t develop into an even longer hiatus.
Some rumors claim that the season is going to premiere in May 2017, and while that may seem too far away for most fans of the show, it’s a real possibility. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing though, as it will give the producers more time to prepare the season and make it even more interesting and unique than the ones before it.
There have already been reports of new cast members being added to the roster, so it sounds like season 4 is going to come with a fresh new look. We don’t know if there will be another coat of paint on top of that though, but it’s possible that the producers could decide to mix things up with the setting and general background a little bit. The show certainly has a lot of potential that can still be explored, and according to some fans it has even been a bit stale with its relative lack of changes over the first three seasons.
As for the May 2017 date, it’s worth keeping in mind that “Game of Thrones” is supposed to get back on the screen around that time as well, so it’s not entirely clear if the producers of “Reign” are actually trying to avoid competition with the other show, or if there is another reason for the delay. Of course, we don’t expect that we will be told the official reason, especially if it has something to do with problems in the production behind the scenes. But it would still be a good gesture for the producers to address their fans and let them know that they are working on the situation.
Because right now, there is a lot of confusion among fans, and some are even convinced that this is might be a bad sign. We don’t expect that “Reign” will be canceled anytime soon though, as it still manages to attract a large, active crowd of dedicated followers. It would make no sense for the producers to pull the plug right now.
Some reports also indicate that the fourth season is going to deviate further from real-life events. This is not unusual given what we’ve seen in the first three seasons so far, and the writers of the show actually try to handle these kinds of plot lines with enough attention to detail to make up for any major differences with the way things developed in reality, so it’s not a bad thing by any means.
