Season 3 of the American historical drama TV series “Reign” on The CW is currently on its mid-season break and will return to the small screen on April 25 for its 11th episode. Although it is an acclaimed show as it focuses on Mary, Queen of Scots, played by Adelaide Kane, and her tumultuous life at the center of 16th-century European politics, its ratings have been on a downhill since its premiere season.
Thus, even the loyal viewers of the show, along with the producers, cast, and crew, are worried that Season 3 may be its last.
Much to everyone’s surprise, The CW announced a few days ago that “Reign,” along with 10 other TV series in the network, have been renewed for another season.
It was such a breather not only for the producers but also for the cast, crew, and fans of the show as they can now look forward to seeing their TV series having another run for at least one more season next year.
In addition to Adelaide Kane, “Reign” also stars a number of actors including Torrance Coombs, Megan Follows, Toby Regbo, Celina Sinden, Caitlin Stasey, Anna Popplewell, Jonathan Keltz, Sean Teale, Craig Parker, Rose Williams, Rachel Skarsten, and Ben Geurens, lists TV Series Finale.
Not coming back?
While “Reign” has already been renewed for Season 4, there are reports coming out that actor Torrance Coombs, who plays the role of Sebastian ‘Bash” Valuar in the TV series, will no longer return next year.
Apparently, the actor will be moving on to another TV series called “Still Star-Crossed” where he will have a bigger and important role. He will be playing the role of Count Paris which is described as the basic Prince Charming, notes Movie News Guide.
While nothing much has been said about his character, there are rumors saying that the Count of Mantua is betrothed to marry Juliet, whom he has never met. Eventually, he learns later that Juliet is no more.
It would be interesting to find out how “Reign” will bid goodbye to the character of Torrance Coombs, whether he will be killed off or just drop completely out of the radar.
More than 90-day hiatus
The midseason premiere of “Reign” will air on April 25, which is exactly 92 days after its first-half finale was aired on the small screen on January 22.
While much of the information about the show are based on what transpired during episode 10, actress Adelaide Kane has recently posted on her Instagram account a picture of herself donning her Queen of Scotland costume and sitting in a dark castle.
She captioned the photo as Queenie in the castle before putting a little trivia by asking which castle it is.
According to fans and critics of the show, Queen Mary will be returning to Scotland. She needed to return to her homeland to improve her chances of winning against England in addition to the fact that her people are slowly turning against her already.
During the first half of Season 3, she was seen having difficulty finding a husband to become her ally against England. Queen Mary needs to return home in order to consolidate her power and improve her chance of getting a crack at the England throne.
Meanwhile, the writers of “Reign” have confirmed recently that they are through writing for the second half of the season.
The writers made the disclosure via Twitter after they posted a non-revealing status that they have just wrapped up work and put a hashtag #ReignSeason3 in the caption.
