The first trailer of the third season of the American historical fantasy romance TV series “Reign” on The CW has been released and it showed the battle of three queens, with two appearing to collaborate to bring down the other. “Reign” Season 3 will premiere on The CW on October 9.
It looks like Queen Mary of Scots will be at the disadvantage of the battle of queens as she will have to fend for herself and take on two other queens – Queen Elizabeth of England, and Queen Catherine de Medici of France.
Queen Mary, played by Adelaide Kane, recognizes that she won’t be able to stand toe-to-toe versus the two queens so she would need all the help she can get, even if one of them, Queen Elizabeth, is actually her cousin, details TV.com.
Accordingly, she will be able to draw the support and help of Francis, played by Toby Regbo, who promised to do everything to help the Queen of Scots. There are reports that there will also be a tiger involved, but it is not clear how it with would play out in the scenes or situations for Season 3.
It can be recalled that during the Season 2 finale of “Reign,” Catherine de Medici, played by Megan Follows, travelled to England to forge an alliance with Queen Elizabeth, played by Rachel Skarsten.
While much of Season 2 focused on the French Court, the upcoming third season shall have the English Court under the reign of Elizabeth, whose first guest will be none other than Queen Catherine de Medici, notes Crossmap.
Nostradamus will also be around
The great seer Nostradamus, to be played by Rossif Sutherland, will have a role again in the upcoming third season of “Reign.”
Showrunner Laurie McCarthy confirmed the plot involving Nostradamus and that the famous man of history is still mad against Queen Catherine de Medici. But just like in the past two seasons, Nostradamus will not be a series regular but will only be a guest at the French Court and also in the TV series.
Reports also have it that there will also be two important male characters who will be introduced in “Reign” Season 3. The first is Tom Everett Scott, who will take on the role of William, Queen Elizabeth’s trusted advisor and counsellor. And the second one is Robert Dudley, Queen Elizabeth’s love interest despite the fact that he is already married.
Elizabeth’s spy
There have also been rumors going around that a new character will be joining the series who will take on the role of Queen Elizabeth’s English Ambassador to France.
The title may have the trimmings of an official and diplomatic position, but accordingly, the person would simply serve as the England Queen’s spy on the French Court. As the character will shuttle to and from the English and French courts, it is expected that there would be new romantic trysts and plenty of intrigues that would be thrown in between.
Previously, there were reports also that a sexy and erotic pirate named Martin will also show up and shake things up at the French Court in the upcoming season.
Accordingly, the suave pirate has a penchant for highborn ladies and is looking for a bride. Rumors have it that he could fall for one of Queen Mary’s ladies in waiting. So fans would be watching out on who among Kenna, Lola, Greer or even Mary herself the pirate would be able to lure with his rumored charm.
Prior to the two new possible character additions to “Reign,” there were reports that the character of Charles IX of France will also return to Season 3. The character first appeared during the first season as a child, but the role is now being recast. Charles IX is the Dauphin of France and is next in line to the throne.
