‘Reign’ Gets Renewed for Season 4; Torrance Coombs to Exit the Show after Current Third Season

The CW has renewed “Reign” for another season. The network has revealed recently the list of shows that received the renewal stamp.

Along with “Reign,” renewed for next season are freshmen series “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” as well as “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “The Originals,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “iZombie,” “Jane the Virgin,” and ‘”The 100.” “Supernatural” has reportedly been renewed for Seasons 12 and 13.

The historical drama is currently on a midseason hiatus and will return on April 25 taking over the Monday timeslot of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” The latter will wrap up its first season right before “Reign” returns for its midseason premiere. This is part of the network’s shake-up in its programming schedule.

The midseason finale saw Adelaide Kane’s Queen Mary teaming up with Ben Geurens’ Gideon to fool Queen Elizabeth, played by Rachel Skarsten.

Rose Williams’ Claude is also married to Duke Boinel but ends up being abused on their wedding night. It turns out that Catherine, played by Megan Follows, had a hand in the Duke hurting her daughter.

This prompts Prince Charles, played by Spencer MacPherson, to force the Privy Council to remove Craig Parker’s Narcisse as the regent and give the job to her mother.

Claude’s marriage was then annulled and Jonathan Keltz’ Leith promises to rise in the station so that he will be worthy of marrying her.

Anna Poppelwell’s Lola arrives at the English court and learns that Queen Elizabeth has no intention of releasing her family. As for Elizabeth, she drinks a tea laced with poison and in turn, loses her baby.

The CW still hasn’t released its synopsis for the midseason premiere yet, but the episode will be titled “Succession.” It is heavily rumored that the person who was responsible for poisoning Elizabeth’s tea will be revealed in the upcoming episode.

A promo has also been released by the network. In the video clip, Mary is accepting her fate and claims that she will fight fire with fire.

It is also seen that Mary is planning to go back to Scotland which Elizabeth has knowledge of and seems as if she has the plan to ruin her cousin’s trip to her native land.

Meanwhile, “Arrow” star John Barrowman will guest-star in the historical drama as Munro, a Scottish clan leader who turns out to be King Francis’ killer.

Earlier this season, Francis, portrayed by Toby Regbo, met his demise after a duel in the woods to save Mary’s life. It turns out that Munro was the one who placed a sword in Francis’ chest.

As per EW, Barrowman will appear in the penultimate episode of the season and will have an awkward encounter with Mary as she enters Scotland.

For a little while, the renewal of “Reign” for a fourth season was up in the air because of the show’s continuous decline in ratings. However, the show being renewed for another season allows the show a chance to rally up stronger viewing scores.

Rumors were very persistent that the current season was the last one as the episode order has declined to 18 compared to the usual 22.

While “Reign” may get to see another season, Season 3 is apparently the last one for actor Torrance Coombs.

The 32-year-old actor has announced that he would be departing the series after the third season. Coombs was also the one who announced that production for the third season has already wrapped up early last month.

Reign Season 3

Coombs portrays Bash, King Henry’s illegitimate son with Diane de Poitiers and Francis’ half-brother. During the first season, Bash was involved in a love triangle between Mary and Francis.

However, by order of King Henry, he was forced to marry Kenna, one of Mary’s lady-in-waiting. The pair struggled to make their marriage work, but managed to develop genuine feelings for each other over time.
