That is, making the remake only available with the purchase of the sequel. Currently, the only way to get the “Call of Duty 4” remaster is to buy the new “Infinite Warfare”, and even though it’s expected that it will be available as a standalone release eventually, this will still impact the game’s reputation.
Rockstar could actually benefit quite a lot by releasing the HD remake as a standalone game in light of that scandal – provided of course that the rumors are true in the first place – and the studio has generally been more closely connected to their fans, so it’s possible.
If we don’t get any news by the end of this week, it’s probably safe to assume that the rumors were false and the remake isn’t coming. Or at least, Rockstar might have changed their plans about announcing it in the next few days.
One thing is certain though – the huge hype that this rumor managed to generate is a clear indication for Rockstar that they’re sitting on a goldmine and are letting it rot away idly. The studio could potentially do so much with the “Red Dead Redemption” name, but they’ve been letting it go to waste for quite a while now.
This has led to a lot of disappointment among their fans who were originally drawn by that game, so hopefully the developers are paying attention and are going to do the right thing for their next release.
