Many of Rockstar’s fans still remember the iconic “Red Dead Redemption”, and the game still has a large following. And while the studio keeps putting a lot of work into “Grand Theft Auto”, their main franchise, some of their fans have been asking for a sequel to their western-themed title as well.
There have been some rumors about “Red Dead Redemption 2”, but nothing concrete yet. Rockstar are either not working on the title, or are preparing it as a major surprise, and we won’t know for sure for quite a while.
But the studio is apparently working on something else that will please that corner of their fan base – an HD remake of the original “Red Dead Redemption”. Recently, rumors have started circulating that “Red Dead Redemption HD” is not only in development at the moment, but it’s also coming out for modern hardware, PC included.
That last bit obviously got many fans even more excited, as the first game never made it to the PC at all. Many were convinced that Rockstar would eventually get around to it, and the delay with the PC port of “GTA 4” gave them hope that they were right.
But in the end, the game never got a PC release, and was forever stuck on consoles. If the studio is actually making an HD remake right now, this could explain why they never released it for PC originally, as that would have nearly doubled their development efforts for no good reason.
If the leaks are true, we expect to see the official announcement at some point during this week, as that was also implied in the original information. And if that does happen, Rockstar should probably prepare themselves with some solid servers, as fans are sure to take them by storm once they get the news.
Other than that, there are also claims that the actual sequel is also in development in parallel, and it will be announced together with the remaster. This implies that Rockstar are attempting something similar to what Activision did with “Call of Duty” recently, releasing a new game along with a remake of one of the most iconic entries in the franchise.
In the case of “Red Dead Redemption”, there isn’t really a “franchise” to talk about, so it’s obvious which game would be chosen as a target for that remake. It would work out great in terms of marketing for the new game too, but some fans are still questioning whether the rumors are true or not.
According to the more skeptical ones, it would make more sense for Rockstar to just focus their efforts on the sequel entirely at this point, and they shouldn’t invest any significant resources in a HD remake of the original game.
But given how much time has passed since we got the first “Red Dead Redemption”, players might actually benefit from this remake to refresh their memories about the plot of the original. Plus, PC gamers who’ve never had a console would not even know the plot in the first place, so this remake could be largely aimed at them.
The other major question for many fans is how much the remake is going to cost. While there are differing opinions on that, the one thing fans seem to agree on is that Rockstar should avoid doing the same thing as Activision is currently attempting with “Call of Duty”.
