Rockstar have obviously been preparing for this announcement for a long time and with great care, as they’ve been enjoying great responses ever since they first showed “Red Dead Redemption 2” to the world.
They’ve continued to release more and more exciting materials ever since, and at this point many new people have been drawn to the franchise who hadn’t even heard of it before. There is a lot of potential for Rockstar to revive interest in that brand name right now, so hopefully they’ll pull it off properly. They’re one of the studios that understand marketing better than the others, after all.
Some have also pointed out that the studio could benefit from developing a remastered edition of “Red Dead Redemption” to go along with the new release, although it’s hard to tell if that would be attractive to many fans. The original game already looks good enough as it is, and it would be a lot of extra effort for the studio for no good reason.
A better idea would be to release a promotional bundle featuring the new “Red Dead Redemption 2” and the original game in one package. We actually hope that Rockstar will do something like that, as many people will have an interest in the previous game once they see the new one, and it may be a bit harder for them to get their hands on it right now, given its age.
