The original “Red Dead Redemption” was a huge hit, and the announcement of the sequel was preceded by a long period of rumors and speculation. And while many fans are happy that the game is getting continued, one big question is still looming in the air.
Will there be PC support this time? When the first “Red Dead Redemption” arrived, it skipped that platform in favor of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The move still didn’t prevent Rockstar from seeing a lot of success from that release, but many fans and critics have argued that it could have been even more successful if it was also made available on the PC.
It’s actually strange to see Rockstar moving in such a direction, considering that the PC was the platform that originally allowed them to rise to fame. In addition, it would have been a great opportunity to see some amazing mods, but that never happened sadly.
If Rockstar are paying attention to the discussions of their fans right now, they should definitely prioritize PC support as one of the main features of the game (if it’s not already on the table). The studio could actually lose some reputation among its followers if they decided to skip the PC yet again, so hopefully they know what they’re doing.
There are also rumors that fans might actually get a special surprise that exceeds their current expectations. According to those claims, Rockstar are not only considering a PC release for “Red Dead Redemption 2”, but could also port over the original game as a double package.
That sounds like wishful thinking at this point, as it’s arguable whether it will make sense for the studio to do something like this. It would probably be a better move for them to concentrate on their current work on “Red Dead Redemption 2”, and leave the original game in the past where it belongs.
Those rumors were most likely inspired by Activision’s recent moves in the “Call of Duty” franchise. However, the decision to release a remastered version of “Call of Duty 4” was ultimately received poorly, after fans found out that they will not be able to get the game separately without buying the newest installment in the franchise.
Other than that, there are also rumors of possible multiplayer features coming to “Red Dead Redemption 2”. That would indeed be a fantastic way to spice up the game, and combined with its possible arrival on the PC, it should be the perfect way to revive interest in the franchise and help bring it to more players.
The studio should have a lot of experience in this regard thanks to their recent work on “GTA 5”, and we can easily see some features from that game making their way over into “Red Dead Redemption 2”. Of course, in the end, the game will still have to stand on its own two feet, but there are various possibilities for inheriting certain features.
Rockstar themselves have been relatively quiet on the issue so far, which is understandable, given the huge popularity of the game and how much attention is currently focused on them. It will probably take a while before we see any official statements, and fans should prepare for the possibility that Rockstar are going to be vague and cryptic for a few months until they’re ready to say something more substantial.
