While New York-based game developer Rockstar Games has yet to make an official statement regarding the next iteration to its open world Western action-adventure video game “Red Dead Redemption,” reports have it that the sequel will already come out on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC early next year.
The speculations about the possible release date of “Red Dead Redemption 2” were triggered primarily by leaks and hints at various gaming forums all over the internet. None of them came from Rockstar so those should be taken with a fine grain of salt.
There were also recent reports saying that Rockstar is currently looking to hire a network programmer who specializes in a wide range of gameplay mechanics for an open world game. While the job ad did not specifically mention that the network programmer will be for a certain game, many believe that it is for “Red Dead Redemption 2.”
The new position in Rockstar’s development team will apparently be in-charge in the integration of dynamic multiplayer mode into all areas of gameplay of “Red Dead Redemption 2” as well as its complex open-world environments, details Crossmap.
Started in development early
Speculations about the impending release of “Red Dead Redemption 2” began in the Reddit forum when one user leaked some information about the game.
The user, named AnonDN1978, revealed that “Red Dead Redemption 2” was already in development for three and a half years already and the game will be ready for release in early 2016. Accordingly, immediately after releasing “Red Dead Redemption” in 2011, Rockstar already buckled down to work on its sequel.
The same source also said that the official title of the sequel to the “Red Dead Redemption” is going to be “Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West.”
Since Rockstar is unlikely to make a statement or announcement to either confirm or deny these speculations, the best way for gamers to find out if these reports or rumors about “Red Dead Redemption 2” is to wait it out until early next year and see how things shape up from there.
Possible setting
There have been countless theories regarding the possible plot of “Red Dead Redemption 2.” One speculation suggests that the game would be set in Japan, which seems unlikely considering that the game always had a Western setting, details the Christian Post.
And if the supposed title of the upcoming game “Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West” is on target, there is simply no way of having an Eastern country like Japan being the setting for a Western-themed video game. West is normally about dry and arid desert which Japan certainly does not have.
There are also reports saying that “Red Dead Redemption 2” will be largely set in the Western part of the US and shall move towards the Eastern parts.
Accordingly, it is possible that players of “Red Dead Redemption 2” will get the opportunity to move via the railroads and go through other US states like Kentucky, Alabama, North and Sout Carolina, among others.
Rockstar considers the open world action adventure “GTA” video game series as a permanent franchise and would surely love nothing but to continue it in the years to come.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar Games, says that other than its heavy focus on “GTA”, it has been the tradition of the game development company to launch new titles on a yearly basis including “Red Dead Redemption,” “Bully,” “L.A. Noire,” among others.
He said that what they are actually doing is put forth on the table possible video games which they can actually turn into a permanent franchise the way that “GTA” has successfully evolved into such.
