‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Developer Rockstar Wants the Game to Become a Permanent Franchise!

When developer Rockstar Games is mentioned and brought up in discussion circles, only one video game comes to mind and it is no other than the very successful “Grand Theft Auto” franchise.

Rockstar considers the open world action adventure “GTA” video game series as a permanent franchise and would surely love nothing but to continue it in the years to come.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar Games, says that other than its heavy focus on “GTA,” it has been the tradition of the game development company to launch new titles on a yearly basis including “Red Dead Redemption,” “Bully,” “L.A. Noire,” among others.

He said that what the company is actually doing is put forth on the table possible video games which they can actually turn into a permanent franchise the way that “GTA” has successfully evolved into one, notes Crossmap.

Zelnick admits that not all of the video game titles that they are bringing out are going to a permanent franchise. Having been in the business for a good number of years, they pretty much know which games have the potentials to become a permanent franchise and which games are just good for one shot only.

The developer’s next permanent franchise

The Rockstar CEO said that for as long as they keep delivering incredible quality the way they are doing for the “GTA” video game series, they are going to build on the gains of a potential title with the inkling of a permanent franchise.

Rockstar believes that the open world Western action-adventure game “Red Dead Redemption” has the biggest potential in its roster to be its next permanent franchise. It is no wonder that rumors about the upcoming release of the “Red Dead Redemption 2” have been permeating in gaming discussions since last year.

Zelnick is also proud and happy to note that there have been so much excitement and enthusiasm on “Red Dead Redemption 2,” and rumors are saying that it will finally come out next year to the gaming consoles and the PC.

Assuming that the speculations are on target as far as the game’s release date are concerned, then “Red Dead Redemption 2” will come out five years after “Red Dead Redemption” hit the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, and the PC  in 2011.

Major rumors about the upcoming game

There are four major rumors going around about “Red Dead Redemption 2” and the information were mostly coming from sources who are actually involved in the development of the game or so they claim.

Realistically, there is no way to verify whether the sources are indeed privy to the goings on at Rockstar because their only claim of connection to the company is through their post on public forums, wherein they use fictitious names and accounts. For obvious reason, if Rockstar finds out about their true identities, they will be kicked out of the company.

The first two major rumors about “Red Dead Redemption 2” actually comes from someone who claims that he hates his boss in the company that he decided to leak information about the game in a public forum.

He says that John Marston, the protagonist of “Red Dead Redemption 2” will be gone in the sequel and instead gamers will have to deal with new playable characters.

Another piece of information that the leaker provided which seems plausible is about the official game title of the video game when it finally comes out. Accordingly, the game will have the official title “Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West,” which is quite consistent with the first rumor that John Marston will be gone in the next iteration of the game.

The third major rumor about the game comes from a mysterious informant who carries the name of Cyberland and who also claims to know the inner workings of Rockstar Games.

This leaker has been spreading information that “Red Dead Redemption 2” will come out in October 2016, barring any setbacks in the development front, notes the Christian Today.

  1. Doubtful. They still have that Agent game that’s going on 7 years. It’s mostly doubtful because we’d most likely have pre-sale $200 packages on the market. Maybe in time for Christmas next year, but I’m guessing they’re going to announce something at 2016 e3 and we can expect a 2017 release
