Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S6, is set to be officially launched on opening day of the four-day Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 scheduled on May 2- 5 at Barcelona, Spain.
Although Samsung has not made any official pronouncement about it, a company executive apparently leaked the information to the press on January 21 to further build the hype on the launch of the successor of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
NDTV Gadgets also got wind of leaked information regarding the possible specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S6.
While initial reports indicated that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset, the latest leaks show that the Korean tech giant has junked the plan and instead used a 64-bit octa-core SoC but still unnamed chipset that utilizes the 14-nanometer node process.
The new chipset is said to be 50% faster than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810.
Initial leaks on the Samsung Galaxy S6 revealed that it will have an Exynos 7420 chipset for the 3G variant and the Snapdragon 810 chipset for the 4G model.
A 5.1-inch QHD screen and 20-megapixel camera
What takes the cake from the latest leaks is the 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen display with a remarkable 577 pixels per inch density protected on top by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
This feature is a drastic or major improvement from Samsung Galaxy S5, the current flagship smartphone of the Korean company, which only uses a 5.1-inch full-HD display.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 shall also feature a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
The latest flagship smartphone of Samsung will reportedly come in three storage variants of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB.
While the leaks did not contain any information on the RAM capacity of the Samsung Galaxy S6, many Samsung enthusiasts and fans believe that the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone will pack 4GB of RAM.
Other features
Given today’s strong demand for wireless charging, the Samsung Galaxy S6 will also come with a Quick connect charging capable of four hours of usage for a 10-minute charging. The smartphone shall use a 2550 mAH lithium battery.
Samsung Galaxy S6 shall also reportedly feature a metal and glass body, which have been quite consistent with the initial leaks on the device. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone is expected to support LTE Category 6.
The smartphone shall also come with a special feature called Samsung Pay, which is obviously the Korean company’s answer to Apple Pay. The mobile payment system is said to work with 90% of existing magnetic stripe payment terminals as well as NFC payment terminals.
