Reports from the China Economic Daily News suggest that Apple supplier AU Optronics has just signed a deal to produce 4-inch screens for the tech giant. Though there are existing 4-inch iPhones in the market, it is safe to say that Apple could probably want to incorporate the power of the new iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus on smaller versions.
With this possibility, Apple can regain the customers who prefer to have smaller phones that can pack huge power. When the Cupertino company introduces the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, most of their loyalists have strayed away from the product because of its size. The bigger version already seemed like tablets and most complained that they would prefer for both devices, the tablet and the phone, to have separate purposes. It is also handier and more accessible to use a 4-inch phone than a 5-inch to 6-inch smartphone display.
According to sources, the 4-inch distribution is for a 2016 model. Interestingly, other reports suggest that instead of the iPhone 6c, the company will introduce the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7C. However, according to Tech Radar, if it will be a 4-inch display, it is more likely to be called the iPhone 6C.
On December 2014, rumors about the iPhone 6S mini began spreading. G4Games reported that Apple might not want to release a smaller iPhone because the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 has already been a success. If they release a smaller version, it could just be doing what happened to the iPhone 5C. That could be true but there are still certain reports coming from supply chains about this new 4-inch device.
So far, there is still hope for those who are envisioning a smaller iPhone. The company has not released any definite statement on the new product manufacturing yet nor have they denied any development of the phone. So, it is still a possibility for them to build one.
Other rumors suggest that the new 4-inch model will have curved corners like the iPhone 5s. There’s still a market for smaller phones but since people are starting to get used to bigger devices, the market becomes smaller as well.
On the other hand, leaked photos of the possible new Apple line up were released last May. On May 21, 2015, the iPhone 6c was detected on Apple’s own website. This could be an internal error but the new phone appears to have an iPhone 5C with a Touch ID. For those Apple users who are familiar with the product, the fact is iPhone 5C does not have a Touch ID. So, this new innovation could only mean it is also a new smartphone. The leaked photo has a fingerprint sensor sitting beneath the home button. The Touch ID was only introduced on lines above the iPhone 5S. According to rumors, this could be a repackaged version of the iPhone 5S.
