A lot has been happening on the set of “Real Housewives of New York City”, and the show’s producers have recently decided to add some extra drama between some characters – but on the other hand, they’re also balancing things out with some more positive developments too. In particular, there has been growing tension between Ramona and Luann de Lesseps, and it looks like this might change the landscape of the show in the near future. The confrontation between the two characters was already dramatic enough, but it doesn’t seem like this part of the story is over just yet.
One of the main events of the episode was Luann’s announcement that she’s “engaged to be engaged” to Tom, accompanied by a shiny-looking necklace. It’s not clear when the wedding will actually occur – technically, Luann isn’t even fully engaged yet – but it’s good to see that she’s moving towards reestablishing her married life. Some publications have pointed out the rather cheesy nature of the pre-engagement, especially in the context of Luann’s older character.
At the same time, the main reason for Luann de Lesseps to get into a conflict with Ramona was the revelation that Ramona had been spreading rumors about her. This was revealed in a conversation with Dorinda, leaving Luann perplexed, but also ready to act. It didn’t take long for her to get in Ramona’s face, and she can’t really be blamed for her reaction considering the tense situation she’s already in, with Sonja possibly still holding on to some unknown cards related to Tom.
Sonja herself was shown in an interesting light in her own basement in episode 13, and some publications and fans have described the scene as resembling something out of a horror movie. It’s not really hard to see the analogy either, and it’s obvious that Sonja’s personality goes much deeper than this show lets on right now. It would be interesting to see if the producers decide to do anything else with her in the future, but she’s an active enough presence in the show as it is right now.
It would be particularly interesting to take a deeper look into her issues related to her hoarding and general behavior. This episode did make it clear that there is more to be said on that front, although it’s also peculiar to note that Sonja herself is aware of her situation, and she admits that she has hoarding tendencies. In fact, she sees herself as someone with actual issues in this regard, but at some point she was forced to cut the conversation short due to some invasive thoughts of her family, so we didn’t get to see the full picture.
For a show under the “Real Housewives” brand, we’ve seen some very interesting characters in “Real Housewives of New York City”, and the producers obviously have some creative ideas for running the series. The fact that it’s managed to stay on the screen for eight seasons and it still attracts a solid following speaks clearly of that.
On the other hand, ratings have been on a downward trend, so the producers will have to take some measures to address that sooner or later. There is still a lot of potential for exploring interesting personality aspects all over the set of the show, so that shouldn’t be too difficult. Hopefully they keep those changes balanced instead of going too drastically, as that could also potentially ruin the show.
Meanwhile, some recent drama between Luann and Carole has spilled over onto the Internet, as the former posted an explanation of her side, and claimed that she’s already been apologetic enough, so she can’t change the situation any further.
It does seem like Carole is intentionally turning Luann away and refusing her offers for peace, but it’s not clear why. Perhaps we’re going to find out in a future episode, but it’s also possible that things between the two of them are just going to die down quietly. It’s possible that this is exactly what Carole wanted in the first place.
For fans of Jules, next week’s episode should have some developments on the front of her injury, and hopefully they are not going to be negative ones.
Other than that, it looks like a lot has happened in front of the cameras and is coming up in the next episode, so fans should not miss out on the new developments. Despite the falling ratings, it’s worth pointing out that some fans are still fond of the overall direction in which season 8 is moving, so the producers must be doing something right. Whether or not it will be enough to keep the show running further into the future is too early to tell, but hopefully the ratings are going to pick up fast in the following episodes.
