The fifth movie of the iconic “Rambo” film franchise and the iconic character John Rambo, played in all four movies by Sylvester Stallone, is now done and over with as the veteran action star decided early this year that it is a no-go.
Stallone just turned 70 years old early last month. While he still has it in him, Sly no longer wants to come up with a half-baked movie which may give a negative impression of the iconic character.
During the fourth movie, entitled “John Rambo,” the character already went home to the United States after freeing some hostages in Burma, a country run by a military junta. He is done with going on covert and almost suicide missions in places that the military personnel would dare not go.
Critics believe that it would have been great if “Rambo 5” was greenlit and filming started this year. The movie would have been released next year to mark the 35th year of the franchise.
It can be recalled that the first movie of the franchise, entitled “First Blood” was released to theaters in October 1982.
It was actually Stallone himself who announced late in 2014 that “Rambo 5” was a go but a year later, he changed his mind and decided to forego doing a fifth movie of the iconic franchise.
He was quoted as saying that if he has gone on to do “Rambo 5,” it would be similar to old fighters who go back for one last fight in the ring and get clobbered in the process. Stallone added that it would be better if he would just leave the character to someone else who is a lot younger than him, details Yibada.
Not worried about age
Apparently, Stallone was not concerned about his age or his capability to do some more action scenes in a movie when he turned down “Rambo 5.”
In fact, he is about to begin filming the fourth iteration to the action-ensemble franchise “The Expendables” so the age factor did not catch up with him. He just felt that there is no good story to really compel him to do “Rambo 5,” notes Movieweb.
Back when he said that “Rambo 5” was a go early last year, Stallone even trained to make sure that his 68-year-old body then can handle the rigors of filming.
However, after realizing that he was better doing a dramatic movie like “Creed” where he even got recognized by the critics and won a Best Supporting Actor award from the 2016 Golden Globes, and also a nomination for the same category from the Oscars, Stallone knew that his days as John Rambo is over.
Only a reboot can bring it back
“Rambo 5” is officially done and over with and the only way that it can ever happen is if the movie is recast or rebooted altogether.
But the new franchise needs to do all four film reboots first before it reaches “Rambo 5” the same way the “Star Trek” reboot is doing with the 10-movie lineup of the original film franchise.
And that normally takes years to happen so it is short of saying that if “Rambo 5” will not be happening this year, the earliest that it can happen is 10 years from now and only if Sylvester Stallone would allow it since he has the right to the franchise.
The even bigger caveat for the recasting or reboot of the “Rambo film franchise is that Stallone should be part of it or at least consulted in the process. But that is way too far ahead of the current schedule with the way the situation stands as far as the franchise or the actor’s career and age are concerned.
Stallone is now 70 years old so if a “Rambo 5” happens from a “Rambo” franchise reboot, he would be around 78 to 80 years old by then. It would be interesting what role will he be playing by then or whether he will be behind the scenes or part of it.
While there are still trickles of rumors about “Rambo 5” online, it seems definite this time that the Hollywood veteran action star shall no longer be doing the movie.
With his physique and stance, Stallone still looks a lot younger than 70 but his body can only take so much ordeal that he has decided to give up the role and give it to somebody else who is willing to step up.

Here is an idea- radicals infiltrate us and slowly began overtaking the country- after rambo saves his town he begans a mission to destroy the enemy. He obviously dies at the end saving an important fugure.
