There’s great news for the fans of Rambo. The popular franchise is to set get a reboot. However, Sylvester Stallone will not star in it. Stallone has decided to let a younger actor carry out the role of John Rambo.
University Herald reported that Rambo’s reboot would be called Rambo: New Blood. Nu Image/Millennium Films are looking for a younger actor who would be perfect for the role of Rambo.
The character of Rambo has a cult status, and many are hoping to see the new actor cast in the role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production house is yet to decide on the actor for the role.
Rambo is synonymous to Sylvester Stallone for a large section of fans. Given the connection the fans feel for Rambo, there is a lot of work that needs to be put in to decide the lead for Rambo 5.
Sylvester Stallone had made the character of Rambo his own. He single-handedly fought and beat up the bad guys.
The reboot of the franchise with Rambo 5 would be something that the James Bond franchise saw with Daniel Craig.
However, the fans of the franchise aren’t able to accept that Rambo 5 wouldn’t star Sylvester Stallone in the role of John Rambo. Rumors suggest that the 70-year old actor would make an appearance in the film. He will appear either in the role of another character or would be an older version of the character.
Sylvester Stallone was a part of Creed, which rebooted the Rocky franchise. He starred in the film as Rocky Balboa and trained a younger boxer, played by Michael B. Jordan. Creed went to get critical acclamation and even got Sylvester Stallone, nominations for the Best Supporting Actor.
Men’s Fitness reported that Rambo 5 is still in the talks. Last year there were speculations that Rambo reboot might take the shape of a televised series. FOX was even ready to take it up. It now looks like Rambo 5 will be a feature film that would explore Rambo’s relationship with his son.
Ariel Vromen who is known for Criminal and The Iceman will direct Rambo 5 or Rambo: New Blood. Brooks McLaren, who wrote the script for How It Ends and Line of Sight, has been roped in to work on the script for Rambo 5.
The Rambo franchise might have only four films, but each film has its distinctive quality. Rambo I: First Blood, was all about the drama of veterans and pitted a single man against the enemy. Rambo II was the second part of First Blood and was all about revenge. It became a huge patriotic blockbuster.
Rambo III didn’t quite do very well, and Rambo released way back in 2008, sort of fizzled the franchise out. Given the popularity of the character and Sylvester Stallone, the reboot plans seem to be right on the track.
While there are critics who feel that Rambo 5 wouldn’t do well without Sylvester Stallone, there are many who believe that the franchise had left the film for a long time and the younger generation it would just be an action movie, and they do not care who plays the character.
It is evident that James Bond fans felt uncomfortable about someone else replacing Sean Connery as the iconic spy, but the franchise is still going strong, and now the fans are worried about Daniel Craig being superseded by another actor.
