There were reports last year saying that “Rambo 5” was being considered by veteran Hollywood action star Sylvester Stallone after he officially made an announcement late in 2014 that the movie was a go.
The hype about “Rambo 5” lasted all the way to the end of 2015 but came the entry of 2016, Stallone publicly came out to say that he is done with the franchise and that he can no longer do another film about his iconic character.
He said that the mind is willing but the body is saying that it would be better for him to just stay home. Stallone just turned 70 years old last July. He was also quoted as saying back then that it would be better for him to relinquish the character to someone who is young and is willing to step up to the plate and face the challenge of the role.
Around that time also, there were reports saying that Fox has been talking with several producers including Stallone for the TV version of “Rambo” that was titled as “Rambo: New Blood,” possibly featuring the son of John Rambo.
Father and son team in the TV series
It was also reported then that the TV series could air in October this year. However, it seems that when Stallone abandoned the idea of “Rambo 5,” his would-be co-producers for “Rambo: New Blood” supposedly to be aired on Fox, also decided not to pursue the TV project as well.
Thus, with October fast approaching or barely two weeks away, it seems unlikely that there would be a premiere season of “Rambo: New Blood” on Fox.
But before the TV project was shelved, the reports were saying that “Rambo: New Blood” will be a continuation of the series of films about John Rambo, notes Top TV Shows.
The plot of “Rambo,” the movie franchise, was based on the work of David Morella. The first movie of the franchise was aired in 1982 with the official title of “First Blood.”
The supposed TV series shall be focusing on telling viewers about John Rambo and his son, Jay, who is a member of the detachment of marines.
Jay shall reportedly be similar to his father and also suffers from the same post-traumatic disorder. The elite father-and-son tandem will go on dangerous new adventures with mass shootings, blood, and adrenaline.
However, now that the TV project has been canned or shelved just like “Rambo 5,” it seems that all those exciting plotlines would be put on the backburner until someone decides to make a go of it.
Done and over with
The fifth movie of the iconic “Rambo” film franchise and the iconic character John Rambo, played in all four movies by Sylvester Stallone, is now done and over with as the veteran action star decided early this year that it is a no-go.
Stallone just turned 70 years old early last month. in July. While he still has it in him, Sly no longer wants to come up with a half-baked movie which may give a negative impression of the character.
During the fourth movie, entitled “John Rambo,” the character already went home to the States after freeing some hostages in Burma, a country run by military junta. He is done with going on covert and almost suicide missions in places that the military personnel would dare not go.
Critics believe that it would have been great if “Rambo 5” was greenlit and filming started this year. The movie would have been released next year to mark the 35th year of the franchise.
It can be recalled that the first movie of the franchise, entitled “First Blood” was released to theaters in October 1982.
It was actually Stallone himself who announced late in 2014 that “Rambo 5” was a go but after a year later, he changed his mind and decided to forego doing a fifth movie of the iconic franchise.
He was quoted as saying that if he has gone to do “Rambo 5,” it would be similar to old fighters who go back for one last fight in the ring and get clobbered in the process. Stallone added that it would be better if he would just leave the character to someone else who is a lot younger than him, details Yibada.
