Despite passing up the chance to do “Rambo 5,” Sylvester Stallone said that the movie may still be a possibility because he is the only one retiring and not the John Rambo character.
Immediately after announcing early this year that he will no longer reprise his iconic Rambo character for a fifth installment, Stallone said that his heart is still willing but his body can no longer oblige.
He admitted that he has aged a lot since doing the last Rambo film in 2008 entitled “John Rambo” and he felt that he could no longer give justice to the character anymore, regardless of whatever plotline the movie shall have, reports Yibada.
However, he said that the character is not retiring with him and stated that he is okay with younger actors to replace him for the iconic role.
He was even quoted as saying that he is willing to leave the character to someone else who is very much willing to step up to the plate. Stallone added that he does not want to be like fighters who go back to the ring for one last time and only to be clobbered.
Stallone’s decision to give up “Rambo 5” does not mean his retiring from action movies, though. He is currently filming “The Expendables 4” in China and will be doing a couple more films including “Scarpa” and “Creed 2.”
But most of these films do not require him to do a lot of action, with the exception of “The Expendables 4” but that can also be worked around since he is doing the film with a lot of action stars so there is less rigor on his part.
Gotten the fans hopes up high
It was actually Stallone himself who got the hopes of fans high up that he will still do “Rambo 5” when he posted on Twitter in December 2014 that the adventure of Rambo will continue.
Back then, the rumors were also saying that Stallone was actually doing the writing work for the fifth installment of the “Rambo” franchise and was reportedly titled “Rambo: Last Blood,” notes the Lawyer Herald.
The news about “Rambo 5” since then has varied from go to no go until it was Sylvester Stallone himself who confirmed at the start of this year that he will no longer be reprising his iconic character one more time.
He said that he felt that “John Rambo” already gave the character a fitting closure as he went back to the States after his suicide mission in Burma to rescue several hostages.
He added that he is very contented with how the last Rambo film handled the Burmese situation and the movie is to be the last decent film of the action genre wherein he will do it as a solo act.
Stallone also revealed that he has lost motivation and willingness after reaching the achievement that he’s done in the last Rambo film.
A surreal action movie
Not that it still matters at this time, but had the “Rambo 5” movie been greenlit and gets to be shown in theaters, fans of the franchise would really feel it surreal to see Sylvester Stallone still doing his thing at the ripe age of 70.
In a positive way, it could be like featuring a veteran action star who may have missed a beat already but is still pouring it in. It would surely highlight the resilience of Sylvester Stallone both as an actor and as a person.
But on the negative side, it could also give the impression that Sly trusted no one but himself to make good at the role which is why he opted to do it even if he is already past his action prime.
