When Sylvester Stallone announced early this year that he is no longer pushing for the “Rambo 5” project, which he himself announced on Twitter in December 2014, it no longer came as a surprise to most film critics.
After all, the veteran Hollywood action star is already 69 years old and he could very well be 70 when production for the supposed “Rambo 5” could begin.
Although Sly still has it in him to do the movie and stand toe-to-toe with even younger actors, it is possible that Stallone has realized that he is better off slowing down than pushing himself too hard which is no longer appropriate given his ripe age.
The last time that Stallone did a solo action movie was in 2008 for “Rambo 4” or simply titled as “John Rambo.” That was eight years ago and he was only 61 years old by then, probably 60 at the time of filming.
But it would be an entirely different scenario now that he is already nearing 70. Things in the production would really be far different than the last time.
While his last action film was “The Expendables 3” shown in 2014, it was not a solo act for Sly but an ensemble of some of the most popular action stars to have graced Hollywood both in the past and in the present. So it was not as taxing for him during the production as it was during the filming of “Rambo 4.”
Showing his acting depth
After his depth in acting was noticed in the “Rocky” spinoff movie “Creed,” Stallone may have realized that he was better off doing more of such type of movies rather than go on another action-packed film like “Rambo 5.”
He won the Best Supporting Actor award for “Creed” at the Golden Globe. He also got the nomination from the Academy Awards for the same category but he did not win.
Back when the rumors about “Rambo 5” was hot, it was reported that it shall have the title of “Rambo: The Last Blood,” which is actually in reference to the first movie of the series entitled “First Blood,” notes the Lawyer Herald.
It also came with reports that Stallone was already training at the gym and elsewhere in preparation for “Rambo 5.”
Then came the news early this year from Stallone himself who said that he has decided to retire his John Rambo character for good, adding that his heart may still be willing to do the film but his body is already telling him to stay home and leave it to someone else, cites Screen Rant.
No plans of being clobbered
Stallone confirmed that the fourth film on Rambo, shown in 2008 titled “John Rambo,” was the last go-round for the character.
He said that he does not want to be like fighters who go back to the ring for one last round and gets clobbered in the process. He says that he will be leaving it to someone else.
Stallone said that there is nothing more to pull out from the series and that he was very satisfied that the fourth Rambo film dealt with the Burmese situation, describing it as having one foot in a current event then, which was the longest civil war in history.
The veteran action star said that there is really nothing left. He said that when he was asked to do another “Rambo” movie, he said that if he can’t do better than what he did the last time, there is no use for doing another sequel. He believes that he cannot do any better than “Rambo 4” that is why he would no longer do a “Rambo 5.”
