Despite last gasp rumors a few weeks ago that “Rambo 5” is a go, it seems moot and academic now that there will be no fifth installment to the iconic film franchise.
Sylvester Stallone just turned 70 years old on July 6, 2016 and any attempt to recreate the role would mean that he would be reprising the hardcore fighting machine who is already on his 70s, which is too much even for theatric purposes.
It was actually the Hollywood veteran action star who announced in December 2014 that he would be reprising his iconic John Rambo role in “Rambo 5.”
However, along the way, “Creed” happened and he was recognized for his acting depth and got nominated for Best Supporting Actor in both the 2016 Golden Globes and the 2016 Academy Awards.
He won the Golden Globes but failed to get the Oscars but the nominations have made Stallone realized that he is no longer out there doing films to make money or make people happy with all the actions and stunts.
He wants to spend the remainder of his years more as an actor of substance which is why he decided to finally say goodbye to his dream of doing “Rambo 5” at the start of this year.
Stallone admitted that he really wanted to do the character one last time but he felt that he could no longer do justice to John Rambo anymore.
He said that the mind and heart are willing but the body keeps on telling him that he should stay home. He also does not want to be like an aged fighter who goes back to the ring only to be clobbered and beaten black and blue by a younger opponent, notes Yibada.
A rewarding and long career
But nobody could ever fault Stallone for once thinking of doing a “Rambo 5” movie because he has built a very rewarding, lucrative, and long career on two iconic characters, one of which is John Rambo. The other of course, as everyone also knows, is Rocky Balboa from the iconic “Rocky” film franchise.
His last “Rocky” was “Rocky VI” shown in 2006. Two years later, he also did “John Rambo” or the fourth installment of the “Rambo” franchise, which brought the character full circle, with an ending meant to satisfy fans and bring them a sense of closure as Rambo finally returned home, reports We Got This Covered.
Critics also believe that that since Stallone has already started the action ensemble franchise “The Expendables,” he is better off doing group action movies because it is not as taxing for him as doing a solo action movie considering his ripe age.
But then, the actor is very supportive of anybody who shall be willing to take on the mantle of the “Rambo” role as much as he has already passed on his boxing prowess as Rocky Balboa to Adonis Creed, played by Michael B. Jordan, in the “Rocky” spinoff movie “Creed.”
Bringing it back from the dead
“Rambo 5” was already dead as early as the start of the year but it sparked resurrection rumors when Stallone posted a picture of Democratic nominee hopeful Bernie Sanders on his Instagram and captioned it with Rambo 5, definitely a different concept.
Sly’s post led some of his fans to believe that the actor was alluding to the possible bringing from the dead the fifth movie of his iconic character in the equally iconic film franchise.
But in truth, he was still espousing for Sanders to become the Democratic presidential nominee as he thinks that Sanders would measure up more to Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump more than former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Sanders is five years older than Stallone so if the actor thinks that a 74-year-old politician can be a “Rambo 5” character, he can definitely still do it.
However, Stallone meant it to be more of a jest rather than a hint about “Rambo 5.”
