Sony seem very active in their developments lately, while Microsoft have been keeping quiet. And while most observers would get the impression that Microsoft are letting their market position slip away, let’s not forget that the Redmond giant has proven that they know how to keep a secret when they want to.
The Hololens came as a complete surprise to everyone, so it’s safe to assume that Microsoft could be preparing something of their own behind the scenes, and we simply don’t know about it because it hasn’t even been leaked yet. They’re not an inexperienced company, so they should know the importance of maintaining their momentum on the market.
But for now, it seems like even parts of their crowd are looking over in the direction of Sony with a curious gaze, wondering what the PS4 Slim and Neo are going to bring to the market.
The next few months should prove very interesting for console fans and gamers in general, that’s for sure. With the advance of streaming technologies in gaming, and various consoles implementing this and other advancements on a native level, we’re likely stepping into a new era of console gaming. Companies may have to give up on their traditional 10-year development cycle for console platforms if that turns out to be true, but this could very well benefit the whole industry in the long run.
