‘Prometheus 2’ to Feature a New Group of Space Travelers Who Shall Travel to the Planet of the Engineers, And More

The official title of “Prometheus 2” has been confirmed to be “Alien: Covenant” and it would somehow pick up from the events that transpired during “Prometheus” when it was shown in 2012.

While Director Ridley Scott has previously confirmed early this year that actress Noomi Rapace would no longer be reprising her role as Elizabeth Shaw in “Alien: Covenant” the way she did in “Prometheus,” there are rumors saying that the actress may be back in the sequel after all.

She was recently spotted in Australia to shoot weeks worth of scenes in “Alien: Covenant.” Previously, reports were saying that Katherine Waterston shall be taking over the role of Noomi Rapace as the franchise’s new female lead. So it would be interesting to see both Rapace and Waterston in the film.

Reports are saying that Elizabeth Shaw will eventually die and David shall be the lone survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. David shall be reprised by actor Michael Fassbender in the sequel.

Accordingly, David will be back for a new quest but he would not be journeying alone as a new group of space travelers from the spacecraft Covenant shall be meeting him in the planet of the Engineers to see what happened there, details the Cheat Sheet.

Director Ridley Scott said that the new group of travelers will discover the disaster that happened on the planet of the Engineers and find David there. It is possible that Katherine Waterston shall be part of this group of space travelers and she shall be taking on the role of Daniels.

Way scarier than the first film

In a recent interview, Michael Fassbender said that “Alien: Covenant” is way scarier than the first film entitled “Prometheus.”

The movie is now in post-production and promotion shall be expected to heat up by the start of next year in time for its release on global theaters on August 4, 2017.

Originally, its release date was slated on October 6, 2017, but it was pushed up by a good two months and it might have something to do with box-office strategy.

Fassbender said that the upcoming “Alien: Covenant” shall get everyone excited enough to force them to really watch it. He said that while the upcoming movie has the same scope as “Prometheus,” it’s a lot scarier. It has the imminent sort of disaster feel that “Alien” movies had, notes Comingsoon.net.

A connection to ‘Alien’

The reason why Fassbender compared “Prometheus 2” to “Alien” is because it is actually the second film of a prequel trilogy to the “Alien” film franchise.

“Alien: Covenant” shall connect directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy.

There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, the lone survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

More than half of those who had watched the movie “Prometheus” when it was released to theaters in 2012 were actually not aware that the film was actually part of a prequel trilogy to the iconic “Alien” movie franchise of critically-acclaimed director Ridley Scott.

prometheus 2

So with the exception of Ridley Scott and the lethal xenomorph alien that appeared towards the end of “Prometheus,” there seems to be hardly a connection between the 2012 film with the four-movie franchise that started way back in 1979 starring Sigourney Weaver.

It was only after the movie came out and the reviews started trickling in that viewers realized that “Prometheus” was actually part of a three-film prequel to “Alien.”
