Production of the sequel to the highly-successful science-fiction flick “Prometheus” shown in 2012 has been clouded in secrecy and only occasional spurts of information are being used as basis to come up with stories or updates about the upcoming Ridley Scott film.
So far, the only thing that has been confirmed is that “Prometheus 2” already has a playdate of March 4, 2016, which may or may not be strategic since it will be coming out three weeks ahead of “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” already touted as the first major blockbuster of 2016.
The other confirmed information is that the script is already completed and filming is about to begin soon. Beyond this basic information, all the other tidbits are mere speculations at this point.
“Prometheus 2” has put up a website way back to at least keep fans in the loop of what’s happening or about any possible update on the movie.
The website’s forum has become a goldmine in terms of news updates about the film, although, with lack of confirmation from the production staff, the information coming out of it are mostly speculations, rumors if you may.
Two alien monsters
Among the most interesting news update from the forum is that “Prometheus 2” shall have two alien monsters, which shall not be the Xenomorphs, which were featured in “Prometheus.”
Apparently, two variants of Xenomorphs will be featured in the upcoming movie and chances are, they will be scarier and more deadly.
In addition, there will be three main plot lines to the movie and accordingly, Elizabeth Shaw and David’s mission to Paradise is only one of those three.
There is a bit of deviation from previous reports to the latest update regarding Elizabeth Shaw, to be reprised by Noomi Rapace. It has been reported some weeks back that Shaw will die in the sequel but the latest news seem to indicate otherwise. Now, it seems Shaw will live to make it to the third installment of the movie which shall reportedly have a subtitle called “Paradise.”
There are still other tidbits of information regarding possible plotlines of “Prometheus 2” but for lack of confirmation from the production staff, it would be better to give them some more time until information starts clearing up.
Set on earth
Just recently, Fox was quoted as saying that scriptwriters Matthew Holloway and Art Marcum, two of the writers who wrote the script for “Iron Man” pretty much confirmed that “Prometheus 2” will be set on earth since the plotline will actually detail how aliens came to the planet.
There is another report saying that the location will be set on one of the home planets of the Engineers which could actually be earth. This means that the aliens shall no longer be the villains in “Prometheus 2.” The movie shall apparently draw inspiration from the plot of the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”
Ridley Scott, who is directing the second installment of the science-fiction thriller, is said to be wrapping up post-production work for his space exploration drama titled “The Martian” before he starts working on helming “Prometheus 2.”
