Ridley Scott has been eager to share news on his progress on the next “Prometheus”, and even though the film is still far away and fans shouldn’t expect to get it soon, it’s shaping up nicely and there are some pretty high expectations from all sides for it. Because of this, Scott has apparently been under a bit of pressure to get everything right and ensure that the production comes out good, but from what we’ve been able to tell, the director has been handling his workload very efficiently so far.
According to the latest reports, the film is still in a pre-production stage, so most of the talks from Scott are about his plans for it and for the franchise as a whole, and the director has recently revealed some quite interesting details about what he’s aiming to achieve. According to him, the film is going to have something for everyone, including those who were hoping for a more active “Alien” tie-in, and it’s indeed going to make references to the other iconic franchise, much like some fans have been hoping to see.
The director seems to have some really major plans for the franchise as a whole, and he’s reportedly aiming to expand it quite a bit, but he’s also trying to not abandon the roots of the whole thing which made the idea of “Prometheus” so popular in the first place. And according to Scott, while the actual “Prometheus 2” is not going to be directly linked to “Alien”, that’s also something that’s planned for the future in one of the next “Prometheus” films.
This statement is interesting in various ways, including a definite confirmation that Scott has serious plans for “Prometheus” and he wants to expand this franchise quite a bit. From what we’re able to tell, we’re going to see something spectacular later down the road and the director is likely going to try turning this into a grandiose large-scale franchise that covers a lot of fronts.
If he accomplishes his goals, this could even turn into something greater than the “Alien” franchise itself, and even though that would be a pretty major shot for Ridley Scott, the director has shown that he knows how to handle more significant workloads and he should definitely be able to make something good out of the whole situation. We really wouldn’t be surprised if we started hearing about “Prometheus” more often than “Alien” in the media in the near future, although of course the other franchise is also being developed quite actively, so it would be an interesting competition.
From the sounds of it though, according to what Ridley Scott said about the situation, it’s not even going to be a competition – there will be some deep synergy between the two franchises at some point, and that will be developed throughout the various installments on both sides that are about to come. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the two franchises can mix together and become more deeply connected, and there is definitely a lot of potential to see a strong link between them.
It’s also interesting to note that Scott was talking about a large number of films that he has planned for the franchise in the near future, and it’s going to be an interesting spectacle once he’s had a chance to develop it a little more actively. It’s going to take some time until we get there, but once that’s happened, it will be an exciting time for fans of “Prometheus” and “Alien” alike.
