‘Prison Break’ Season 5 to See Lincoln and His Friends Breaking Out Michael from a Yemeni Prison

Fox has already confirmed that the American crime drama TV series “Prison Break” shall have a fifth season to air next year, nearly eight years after its Season 4 finale was aired in 2009.

While the network could have opted for a reboot of the popular franchise, it has decided to come up with a continuing plotline from the previous four seasons that aired from 2006 to 2009 on Fox.

It can be recalled that the original TV series focused on how Michael Scofield, played by Wentworth Miller, extricated his brother Lincoln Burrows, played by Dominic Purcell from jail in what turned out to be an epic prison break befitting of the title of the TV series.

The popularity of the two “Prison Break” actors and their characters has stood the test of time. In fact, during the premiere season of the American superhero drama TV series “The Flash” on The CW that aired beginning in 2014, the two were also cast as antagonists to Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen, also known as The Flash.

Wentworth Miller was cast as Captain Cold while Dominic Purcell was cast as the pyromaniac Mick Rory. They were bad guys in “The Flash” but at some point, they also helped out the superhero character while he was struggling with powerful meta-humans.

The duo is back!

“Prison Break” shall see the return of the dynamic TV duo in a role reversal. Apparently, it would be Michael who would be in jail in Season 5 and it would be Lincoln and his friends who would attempt to break his brother out, reports Game & Guide.

It could be recalled that everyone thought that Michael Scofield is already dead during the Season 4 finale but apparently, he is not.

It turns out that Michael went to the Middle East and found work in terrorist groups ISA and ISIS. However, after some years working for the organizations, he decided that he has had enough doing dirty work so he decided to quit. But he got thrown into Ogygia jail in Yemen instead.

The prison break is going to be more challenging for Lincoln and his friends since the jail is in a foreign Arab country and many Arabs do not think highly of Americans.

Another important plotline that the upcoming Season 5 of “Prison Break” shall dwell on is how Michael suddenly turned up alive when everyone already thought that he already died of a brain tumor.

Going back again with Sara

Back in Season 4 of “Prison Break,” Michael was married to Sara, played by Sarah Wayne Callies, so it would be interesting to find out whether they will go again with their husband-and-wife roles in the event that Michael is broken out of prison.

However, the teaser of “Prison Break” Season 5 showed a bit of complication on the end of Sara as she is already married to another man, notes the iTech Post.

But there is one thing that binds them and it’s their son so there are speculations that Michael and Sara might find their way back to each other’s arms since they still seem to nurture feelings for one another.

There are also speculations going around that Season 5 is just a one and done deal for “Prison Break,” alluding that it could also be a comeback season but is going to be the final one too.

prison break

However, those who are familiar with TV series production think that it would be foolhardy for the producers and showrunner of “Prison Break” if they will come back to Fox after nearly eight years and come up only with one season.

It would not make sense from a financial perspective and it would also look absurd from a storytelling point of view.

Incidentally, there is more to Season 5 of “Prison Break” than escaping prison as there shall also be a terrorism storyline that shall make the TV series look more like a “Bourne” movie.
