Fox has just confirmed that it will revive the American crime drama TV series “Prison Break” early next year with a fifth season that shall come nearly eight years after the Season 4 finale was aired in May 2009.
In addition to returning cast members to be led by Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, and Sarah Wayne Callies, what excites actor Purcell is the revamp terrorism plot that shall be incorporated in the TV series.
During its first four-year run, “Prison Break,” as its name implies, was about one brother breaking his brother out of prison. Back then, it was Lincoln Burrows, played by Purcell, who was unjustifiably jailed so his brother Michael Scofield, played by Miller, devised ways to successfully break him out of prison.
In the upcoming fifth season of “Prison Break,” it will be the other way around as Michael will be the one in jail over at the Middle East country of Yemen while Lincoln would develop ways to extricate his brother out of the hole.
More to just escaping prison
Apparently, there is more to Season 5 of “Prison Break” than escaping prison as there shall also be a terrorism storyline that shall make the TV series look more like a “Bourne Identity” movie.
It was Dominic Purcell who made the statement in a recent interview where he also explained that the show’s revamp terrorism plot is quite riveting, notes Digital Spy.
The actor also disclosed that the new episodes will deal with what is going in the world today with terrorism. He said that the nine-part “Prison Break” Season 5 is going to be dealing with issues like the ISIS and the ISA.
Purcell said that the show is taking place in Yemen where it will be dealing with ISIS and ISA.
The original four-season TV series ended with Michael presumably dead, but he was not. He actually ended up working for a terrorist organization. It got to the point that he could not do it anymore and they threw him in jail in Yemen to change his mind. But Michael did not change his mind so he was set up to take the fall and was meant to languish in jail for life, narrates Purcell.
Series creator Paul Scheuring confirmed Purcell’s pronouncements about “Prison Break” Season 5 plot by saying that fans are going to be blown away by the TV series which will give all the viewers a really riveting and high-tension thriller.
Scheuring even described “Prison Break” Season 5 as a cross between suspense action flicks “Bourne Identity” and “American Sniper” which would make it both crazy and really cool.
Injured in the set
Early this month, actor Dominic Purcell got injured while filming on the set of “Prison Break” Season 5.
He said that his real-life injuries will be incorporated into the plot of the upcoming Season 5 to make things more convenient for him and the TV series.
Purcell said that his injuries shall be incorporated in the stories for episodes eight and nine. The actor said that the writers will just write something where Lincoln gets bashed in the head with an iron bar or something.
The actor was injured on the set when an iron bar fell on him on the set of “Prison Break” and he suffered a broken nose and a head injury and had to get several stitches.
The production wanted to postpone the filming of his scenes until he gets better but the actor eventually became well enough to take part in the filming. He said that no one expected him to recover quickly from his injuries. When he looks at his face, he said he can get away with it, adding that it would not be too much of a stretch for Lincoln to have bruises as he always seems to get himself into dangerous situations anyway, notes Design & Trend.
He added that Lincoln is the type of character who always got bruises because he is always fighting and getting into scrapes.
