It was clear that the announcement of the return of “Prison Break” would be accepted very positively by fans of the show, and yet at the same time it created a bit of an unfavorable situation for the producers. After all the time that’s passed, the show will have to deliver quite a lot to make up for its absence, and some of its original viewers seem convinced that it’s doomed to fail.
Whether that will happen or not is impossible to predict, but we can definitely see why releasing this season would be more stressful for the producers. And according to reports, some of them are already feeling the pressure of the whole situation.
According to Wentworth Miller, there is a lot of potential in bringing “Prison Break” back, and the show definitely deserves a second chance. On the other hand, it’s not going to be an easy task for everyone on the set, and the showrunners and actors alike will have to put extra effort in their work to ensure that things end up good.
And while the return of the show is obviously great news, it also sounds like the writers are already planning some negative developments in the story, and it won’t be all happiness and excitement once the new season arrives.
One of the main characters might get killed off – more specifically Lincoln – and this will change the tone of the show a bit. It’s possible that season 5 could arrive with an overall darker theme and more thought-provoking episodes.
Even though “Prison Break” has always been a serious show to a large extent, there is always room for making it even darker, and that would also fit the modern trends in television. Right now, shows which take themselves seriously – perhaps too seriously in some cases – seem to be particularly popular with audiences, and this could be a great change that works in favor of “Prison Break”.
On the other hand, the producers should of course be careful not to change the premise of the show too much, as they might find themselves facing a total absence of their original viewers. Fans of longer-running shows tend to be quite sensitive to changes in them, and this is especially true for shows that have achieved an iconic status like “Prison Break” managed to.
We don’t expect the new season to arrive in exactly the same style as the previous ones either, on the other hand. Too much time has passed for that, and as we pointed out above, the current trends in TV are a bit different from what they used to be when “Prison Break” was still on air. The producers will definitely have to throw some changes in the mix to survive.
It looks like the new season of the show will at least bring it back to its roots in one major way – it will actually focus on a prison break, as was hinted by the various photos of Dominic Purcell’s new tattoos.
He will apparently have to help his brother get out of prison now, and this could add an interesting twist on the original story. Some fans might be disappointed by the role Purcell’s character is put in, but it’s impossible that the show will keep his place in the story exactly the same. Plus, some time will have apparently passed in the story itself, making it even more likely that certain aspects of it are going to be rearranged.
