New York City residents have been quite excited these last few days, as Prince William himself has been visiting, along with his wife Kate Middleton, who’s currently pregnant. The couple landed on Sunday, and began their trip according to plan on Monday, starting with a visit to the White House, followed by a trip to a child development center. Local news commenters have been noting that the occurrences where a White House visitor manages to generate more hype than events from within the White House itself, have been quite rare and are always a peculiar thing.
There have been no official comments from President Obama regarding his meeting with Prince William so far, although the two did pose for a few pictures, which were subsequently posted on the Internet. They seemed to be engaged in pleasant small talk, and considering it hasn’t been publicly stated that Prince William has any specific diplomatic plans for his visit (at least ones that involve the White House), it’s probably safe to assume that no such topics were brought up in the conversation.
The reason for the couple’s visit is a speech given by Prince William at the World Bank Conference, in which he expresses his views against wildlife poaching, and the market for illegally harvested ivory.
A child development center in Harlem has been expecting the couple’s visit for a while now, especially because of Kate Middleton – the kids at the center have apparently been quite excited to meet her, and they have in fact been preparing special arrangements for the Duchess. In a previous interview with people involved in the center, it was revealed that the children see Kate Middleton as an actual princess from a fairy tale, and this was among the main reasons for their eagerness to meet her.
This has been the first visit of Prince William and Kate Middleton to the US for three years now, ever since 2011. It’s also the first time that they have visited New York City entirely, although the two haven’t expressed any of their impressions from the city yet. It’s not known if they’re planning to give any public interviews about the trip, although various members of the media have – expectedly – already expressed interest in asking some questions about that.
Meanwhile, there have been more rumors related to Kate Middleton’s pregnancy, as it now seems that she’s planning to name her baby girl Charlotte – at least if the latest rumors are true. Those aren’t coming from any official sources though, so it’s difficult to say whether they have any merit – and the Duchess herself hasn’t made any official statements regarding that, nor has anyone from the Royal Family.
