The seventh and final season of the American teen drama mystery-thriller TV series “Pretty Little Liars” is set to air on Freeform on June 21 and actress Shay Mitchell is hoping that her character Emily will finally have an eventful love life, which would be in stark contrast to Season 6 where she groped for form in the romance department.
In fact, it was the fans of “Pretty Little Liars” who labeled Emily’s love life during the past season as uneventful because it was certainly lacking.
Shay Mitchell is hoping that Emily will finally get a girlfriend in Season 7 that she would care deeply about. Emily’s romances in the course of the show included Paige, Maya, Sara Harvey, and a few more but none of them went to the level of serious.
Her love life has taken a backseat during Season 6 and it seems that Emily will bounce back in the romance department in the upcoming seventh season, notes Bustle.
In a recent interview while the actress was promoting her latest film “Mother’s Day,” Shay Mitchell said that it would really be nice to have someone in Emily’s life that is special to her this season.
The actress is also aware of the viewers’ frustrations about Emily’s stagnancy during the past season, she still thinks it was for the best for the character.
When fans pointed to her that her character did not have much of a love life, she responded that Emily had a revolving door of girls ever since “Pretty Little Liars” began so maybe she needed a little bit of a break during Season 6.
Want to end things in a happy way
Mitchell also said that like all the fans of “Pretty Little Liars,” she wants Emily to eventually have a calm and easy life after what she’s been through in the past.
Last year alone, she got trapped and tortured in a dollhouse, suffered from PTSD, confronted A, realized the girl she liked was actually working for A, lost her beloved father, left college, was stalked by Sara, nearly got run over by a car, and went through several painful procedures in the hopes of selling eggs for money.
With all of those struggles, Emily needs a reprieve and Mitchell wants things to end in a happy way for her character and all the girls of “Pretty Little Liars.”
She said that while her other cast members are looking forward to seeing that every one of them dies in the TV series, she still likes to see Emily living in the end. That is why she is often teased by the other girls that her character will be the only person left at the end of the TV series.
The actress added that she would also take it if Emily ended living in Europe somewhere with her lover and just had a cat.
However, no matter what lies ahead for Emily, Shay Mitchell seems confident it will work out for the best. She said that she is sure the writers are not going to leave the cast members disappointed.
May still get a new lease on life
While previous reports seem consistent in saying that Season 7 of “Pretty Little Liars” is going to be the show’s last, Freeform or series creator I. Marlene King has not made a confirmation or denial about it, leading to speculations that the seventh season may or may not be the series’ last.
But Mitchell said that regardless of whether Season 7 is going to be the last for “Pretty Little Liars” or not, the important thing is always about the present and taking in all the moments and really just letting it all sink in.
