“Pretty Little Liars” executive producer I. Marlene King has spoken – the upcoming seventh season of the Freeform hit series is the beginning of the end.
The seventh season of “Pretty Little Liars” is the last season of the show which means that every mystery surrounding Rosewood and the Liars will finally be unravelled.
The show was renewed for a 6th and 7th season during its Season 5 premiere last year. Lucy Hale, who portrays Aria, was the first person to reveal that Season 7 is the last for the show.
King teases that aside from learning more about Mary Drake, the upcoming season will focus on the girls’ relationship with the other Liars and their former boyfriends.
The second half of Season 6 saw the girls move forward with their lives. Hanna is now engaged to Jordan, Aria is now with Liam, and Spencer, played by Troian Bellisario, is now with Hanna’s ex, Caleb, played by Tyler Blackburn.
However, the season finale showed former flames heat as Hanna admitted that she still loves Caleb and they shared a kiss. Aria and Ian Harding’s Ezra also had an intimate moment after learning they will write a book together.
Spencer and Keegan Alley’s Toby also worked together to uncover Sara Harvey’s lair and Shay Mitchell’s Emily stayed by Allison, played by Sasha Pieterse after she started experiencing visions of her dead mother.
Marlene teases that the girls have never been at odds with each other. It has always been a united front to combat A’s torture.
The showrunner hints that the last season could change that perspective. Marlene teases how Spencer will react when she learns about Caleb and Hanna’s kiss.
While Season 6 proved to be a major shake-up for the show with the 5-year time-jump, it also lived up to its slogan as the ‘summer of answers’. However, it also provided more questions and more mysteries.
In the Season 6 finale, it was revealed that it was Andrea Parker’s Jessica DiLaurentis who has a twin, Mary Drake. Mary was revealed to be the real mother of Charles/Charlotte and Huw Collins’ Dr. Elliot Rollins turned out to be her ally.
Also, Hanna, played by Ashley Benson, was taken by ‘A-moji’ after she took the blame for Charlotte’s death. In the last few seconds of the finale, Hanna’s body was seen being dragged down the stairs to the basement of the same church where Charlotte was murdered.
Design & Trend reports that Season 7’s premiere will finally reveal Hanna’s fate. Marlene recently posted a preview of a script from the first episode of the upcoming season via Twitter.
The short snippet gives fans a clue about what will happen to Hanna. The season premiere is entitled “Tick Tock, Bitches” and Marlene further reveals that the premiere episode will open in a forest during the middle of the night.
Fans have taken this hint that Hanna may have escaped her abductor and is on the run for her life. Benson herself further fueled this theory.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 26-year-old actress says that the premiere will see all the Liars in grave danger.
Ashley says that she’s not killing the possibility that Hanna might not make it out the upcoming season alive, but she hopes that her character will survive.
Benson adds that production for the seventh season is expected to start in two weeks so fans may get a teaser video soon. Season 7 will contain 20 episodes.
Freeform still hasn’t announced Season 7’s premiere date, but it will probably follow the pattern of previous seasons and premiere sometime in June.
Marlene teases that the Liars will make their biggest mistake in the upcoming season. The showrunner could be pertaining to the plan they have set in motion last season.
