It seems that the popularity of the iPhone is growing with each year, and each new entry into the line is attracting more and more people who then actively follow the rumor mill. The iPhone 7 has been enjoying a lot of hype before even being announced, and this is probably the first time that so many rumors are going around a long time before Apple have said anything about the device themselves.
Recently, an alleged leak has shown some concept images for the new device – and if those are to be believed, several things can be taken from that reveal. First, Apple are obviously going to stick to their current design philosophy with regards to the device’s exterior – it’s a standard trend for them to make very few alterations to this aspect of their devices, unless they decide to do a really drastic change.
There has been speculation that Apple might want to reverse their trend of slimming down the iPhone for the next installment, making it slightly thicker instead, as the company is rumored to be experimenting with new ideas for the display configuration that could extend to the sides. While on one hand the rumors sound a bit strange, on the other, this is Apple, and if anyone can pull off an unusual design and make it work properly, it’s them.
The iPhone 6 saw a lot of criticism for its physical design quality, and it’s expected that Apple would pay a lot of attention to this aspect of the iPhone 7’s construction. The company would obviously want to avoid another bending scandal, which could further give credibility to the rumor that they are looking into a thicker design. Allegedly, there could be a change in the configuration of materials used in the construction of the exterior as well, which could make the iPhone 7 even more durable, even under more stressful conditions.
Other things that are rumored to be changed in the iPhone 7 are the charger, which Apple are finally going to standardize (and even use a reversible USB port design, if the rumors are true), as well as the unlocking mechanisms. The last iPhone tried to popularize the concept of using a fingerprint scanner for unlocking, but the iPhone 7 might use facial recognition instead, an idea that Google have been using in Android for a long time now.
Apple have been getting some criticism for not innovating enough in the iPhone line, and for the last few years, this can objectively be said to be true. Even though the popularity of the devices has been on the rise, the company should do something to make their offer more interesting, as other companies have been stepping up their game significantly.
