One thing is certain though – the kind of model that Popcorn Time is based on is starting to become very popular, and someone is going to come up with a way to run it legitimately sooner or later, and they’re likely going to end up very successful.
It might not be the original developers of Popcorn Time, and the new app may not even have anything to do with Popcorn Time in the first place – but this is a market niche just waiting to be filled right now, and a lot of people are probably trying to come up with a solution that works.
Unless they get in touch with major media companies that hold the rights to the various movies they want to stream though, we don’t see that happening anytime soon. Netflix is the only thing that comes close to a legitimate service of this type, and even they’re having trouble getting the rights to everything that their users have been interested in.
