If you are over thirty years old then you might remember when the very first Playstation gaming console was sold in stores. That happened just in time for Christmas back in 1994 and to say that Sony has come a long way with the Playstation is somewhat of an understatement. The Sony Playstation was the first gaming console to sell more than 120 million units worldwide. Fast forward to 2016 and consumers are clamoring about the PlayStation 5 and what it might bring to the table.
The news surrounding the PlayStation 5 has been getting hotter over the last few months, but gamers all over the world have been talking about it since the PlayStation 4 showed up. Now that gaming consoles are taking just about every single thing to the next level, it can only be assumed that Sony is going to do the same with the PlayStation 5. With virtual reality settling in nicely in many different ways, that is one rumor that has cemented itself in the talks about the new console.
Virtual reality is still young and even though you can watch gamers use some devices that have yet to go into mass production, there will be a wait before the headsets show up in mass production. According to the latest rumors, the PS5 will be the last non-CR headset game console from Sony. With that being said, we can take a look at when the console will be released and only assume it will be at least a year after that before we see the virtual reality headsets coming to a living room near you.
Other reports are indicating that the PlayStation 5 will not have any hard disk for storage and will become a streaming device only. Of course, this would be awesome for the mega gamers that are sitting on a fiber optic line to their home, but for those that play from a rural location, this does not sound like the best news. Since technology has taken off in the gaming world, it is not that hard to see the PS4 and the Xbox One as the last of the true gaming consoles.
More consumers are playing video games on their mobile devices and that might be part of the reason that analysts are predicting that Sony and Microsoft are going to look into making a gaming setup box rather than another console like consumers see today. Over the last two decades, the average lifespan of a new console was about five years. Since 3D technology has come so quickly, that lifespan has shortened dramatically and it should be assumed that game console companies are well aware of that fact. Other rumors have more to do with the specs of the PlayStation 5.
