Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, Mirror’s Edge and NFS: Most Wanted Given Out for Free by EA at PSX 2014!

EA have been getting more and more generous lately – it used to be the case that the company was seen as the greediest publisher, but not anymore. Nowadays, they have apparently learned a lot from the way Valve work, and are now much more open to giving discounts and making various special promotions that benefit both them as well as their customers, making everyone happy in the end. And during PSX 2014, the company announced that they would be releasing three of their games for free on Sony’s PlayStation consoles.

The games are already available for free download, and the list includes “Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare”, “Mirror’s Edge” and “Need for Speed: Most Wanted”. Three titles from very diverse genres that have all managed to score good reviews upon their release, so there should be something for everyone in there!

The latest “Plants vs Zombies” is a spin-off from the main title and its gameplay isn’t very similar to the original – it’s instead a third-person shooter. However, despite the fact that many fans were skeptical of the change and were convinced that this is a ripoff meant to quickly cash in on the name, the final result was quite different from that. Everyone was mostly happy with the way the game turned out, and it’s still noted as a very solid shooter.

“Mirror’s Edge” is a bit old at this point, but it’s definitely aged well. The game is played from a first-person perspective, although it’s not exactly a shooter, but rather a parkour-based title that relies mostly on running and jumping around beautifully designed levels, with some shooting and fighting spread throughout the plot, although the main focus is on the running action, not so much on the shooting.

Last but not least, “Need for Speed” is a name familiar to any avid racing fan, and “Most Wanted” is without argument one of the best entries in the franchise so far. The game offers countless hours of varied gameplay, lots of in-depth customization, and AI that will really give the player a solid challenge. It’s not a very realistic racer, but then, that was never the point of the series in the first place.

As said above, the games can be downloaded and played immediately – however, EA have not specified if this offer will be permanent, or if it’s just a temporary promotional deal. Gamers who’re interested in trying out the new titles should hurry up and claim their own copies in case the promotion is time-limited though. EA will likely give players a heads-up before they pull the plug and make the free games unavailable, although this isn’t guaranteed and the situation may not work out like that.
