The producers of the fifth movie of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise want to take it back right from the beginning.
This was disclosed by British actress Kaya Scodelario who said in a recent interview that “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will be similar to the first film, which is considered a classic, cites the Latin Post.
She added that the creators wanted to have the “Pirates of the Caribbean” epic journey for the entire storyline to make sense by tying everything up to the beginning and lead to new storylines.
The “Maze Runner” actress says her character in the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is Carina Smyth. She will be an astronomer and an academician and that she will be fighting for her right to study in the university, because having women pursue such vocation is something not normal during the early days, notes Food World News.
Her role will intertwine with the goal of Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, as Carina will also be looking for the Trident of Poseidon. She has a diary which shall offer them clues and on how to find what they were looking for. But typical of Captain Jack, he will mess everything up and that’s where all the fun and misadventures begin.
Redeeming the franchise
Disney wants to redeem the franchise after the fourth film “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” became the lowest-grossing film in the series in North America, raking in a total of $241 million.
While the movie did well in the global front, the overall total was $60 million short of the first and third installments. The second movie of the franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” is still the highest-grossing in the film series in North America, raking in $423 million.
After the debacle that was the fourth movie, Disney has learned its lesson and thus decided to reboot the franchise with a fresh start. The last three films of the franchise were also criticized by movie critics for their convoluted plots and for not being as original as the first film shown in 2003.
Disney also believes that the franchise has already suffered from fatigue and is optimistic that the return of Orlando Bloom will help rejuvenate the franchise again by giving the viewers an additional reason to be excited about.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is being helmed by a new crew and new directors, Joachim Ronning, and Espen Sandberg, who both come from indie films.
The new Davy Jones
After what appears to be a procrastinated negotiation, actor Orlando Bloom has finally agreed to return to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie franchise.
Bloom, who appeared in the first three “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie will rejoin Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, to reprise his role as Will Turner in the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” the fifth installment of the series to hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
But Orlando Bloom will return sans Keira Knightley, who played Elizabeth Swann, who has been the on-screen partner of Will Turner in the first three movies. Their love story was, in fact, the focus of the first three movies of the series. Keira was in the fourth movie of the franchise but Orlando was not. So it would be the other way around for them in the fifth movie.
In a recent interview, Keira said that she had an amazing experience during her stint with the franchise and she loved every minute of it. However, she thinks also that her time has definitely passed and that she is no longer coming back to the franchise.
