The newest installment in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise is going to shake things up in the standard formula, as the new film will introduce a female lead character, played by Kaya Scodelario who’ll be performing against Johnny Depp. Production of the new film is already underway, with sets being set up in Australia, where much of the filming is expected to take place. Johnny Depp will be coming back in his role of Captain Jack Sparrow, while Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg will be directing the new production.
The actual filming hasn’t started yet, as there are still preparation works ongoing, but it’s nearing its start – work is expected to commence in February, and most of the cast has been finalized at this point, although there are still some decisions to make, according to rumors. The film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, has just recently confirmed Kaya Scodelario’s role, although it’s not clear if there are any other casting decisions to make, or if the production is ready to start filming.
Scodelario is already a prominent name in the film industry, with roles in “The Maze Runner” and “Skins” that got her a lot of positive attention. The actress has been quite active in her work lately, as she’s also going to deliver a new performance as Teresa in “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials”, which is coming out later in 2015.
There’s still plenty of time to go in the production of “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” in the meantime, as the film is currently scheduled for 2017. Of course, anything can happen, and there’s always the possibility that the film will reach a setback at some point in its production, but with two years available for the filming and post-production to be completed, everything should go according to plan.
Are there going to be any other changes to the cast? It’s not known yet. What we do know is that the producers of the film are apparently trying to explore new territories with it, and there might be some peculiar changes to the script, or casting configuration, so it’s possible that we may see other surprises in the casting later down the road.
Many people are waiting for the new film with a lot of eager anticipation, and the producers have been doing a good job at keeping the hype alive through regular releases of interesting bits of information as well. During the next two years, we’ll likely see even more hints about the new movie being dropped here and there, but of course it’s important to remember to take every rumor with a grain of salt, as there will likely be lots of them.
