Because as great as the original was, it was also unique and new to the market, something that people hadn’t seen before and didn’t even realize that they wanted to see. It managed to succeed then because it was such a unique experience, but now, after four installments in the franchise, the producers have certainly lost that edge.
The only way this could possibly work is if they made some serious changes to this film in order to accommodate to all the sequels that have come out since the first one, and because of this, some are suspecting that this might be more than just a sequel.
That’s right – there are some rumors going around that “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” is going to be an actual reboot of the franchise, completely reinventing some of the ideas that were established in the original and its various sequels.
While that might be a bit disappointing to some fans, it would at least make sense as far as reviving the popularity of the films goes. There might not be too many other options for the producers to consider at this point, and they could certainly benefit from giving people a fresh new look at their favorite franchise. Of course, it could also be a very risky move for them if they don’t get it right.
